About This Pub
Ah, the Pack Horse – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot, you know? From what I've gathered chatting about it, the staff are top drawer; they're always on point, making sure everything runs smoothly and you feel looked after from the moment you walk in. The food's another highlight – think generous Sunday roasts with fresh veg and homemade Yorkshire puds that are bang on for value and taste. And let's not forget the pints; they've got it sorted since the new owners stepped in, so you can relax with a quality drink without any fuss. It's got that lively buzz with quiz nights and outdoor spots for when the weather's playing nice. On the flip side, though, the car park out back is a tad uneven and gravelly, which might not suit everyone, especially if you're not as mobile – it's a shame, as the front entrance itself is spot on for accessibility. Overall, it's a gem in Macclesfield that's worth a visit for a good laugh and a bite, but just keep that parking in mind if it's a concern. I'd say it's a place you'll want to return to, balancing the charm with a bit of real-world practicality.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff and management are absolutely brilliant – they're welcoming and make you feel right at home, which really adds to the cosy vibe.
-
The food is a real winner, especially their Sunday lunches; fresh, hot, and generous portions that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank.
-
You can count on a great pint here – no complaints about the drinks since the current owners took over, making it a reliable spot for a proper bevvy.
-
It's got a fun atmosphere with things like quiz nights, and the outside seating is perfect for a sunny afternoon in Macclesfield.
-
Free car park at the back is handy, and the front entrance is accessible, which is thoughtful for folks popping in.
Cons
-
The car park's a bit of a rough gravel patch, so it's not the easiest if you're in a wheelchair or dealing with a bad back – could do with some smoothing out.
-
From what I've seen, it's mostly the parking that's a downside; otherwise, it seems solid, but it's worth noting for anyone with mobility needs.

Great pub, fantastic staff and management.
Not had a bad pint in here since the current owners took it on
We called into this lovely little pub for lunch on Sunday as we heard that they now serve food. We both sampled a traditional Sunday lunch and were not disappointed! The food was fresh, hot and tasty and the portions were very generous!! The service was excellent .... the staff were welcoming and very friendly!! We would both highly recommend!!
Delicious Sunday dinner. Great value for money. Huge portion, both served with fresh vegetables and homemade Yorkshire pudding. Absolute Winner!
Top little boozer. Been coming here for a while and really enjoy the quiz. They’ve just started doing food so we decided to come in and eat early. It did not disappoint. Lovely food, great portions with the usual great service. Would certainly recommend.

Fruit Machine's Indoors
1 Pool Table indoors & quite alot of TV's on the premises for watching the sport
Good choice of Beer's & Spirits available
Small Tap Room to the back of the building
I ate the Bacon Cheese Burger with Salad & Fries it was a good size portion ( my burger was abit dry on the outside edges otherwise I would of gave it a 5 * ) my son ate the Chicken Burger with Fries
