About This Pub
Oh, the Rising Sun in Gawsworth is one of those pubs that really grows on you – it's tucked away in the lovely countryside, offering that quintessential British escape with a cosy interior and a beer garden that's just made for lazy afternoons. The food stands out as a real highlight; think delicious pub grub like gammon steak or halloumi fajitas that won't break the bank, and they've got solid options for vegetarians and families, which is always a bonus when you're out with the little ones or the dog. It's generally a friendly spot with staff who can be absolute gems when they're on form, making you feel right at home. On the downside, service isn't always spot-on – I've heard a few tales of being left waiting or feeling second-best, especially if you're not a hotel guest next door, and the breakfast run can be a bit of a letdown. All in all, with a solid 4.1 rating, it's worth swinging by for the grub and atmosphere, but maybe keep expectations in check for the finer details. You'd probably have a great time if you go in knowing what to expect!

-
Staff are generally friendly and welcoming, especially when things run smoothly, adding to that warm pub feel.
-
It's brilliantly dog-friendly and has a nice beer garden, ideal for enjoying a drink outside on a sunny day.
-
Family-friendly vibes and good parking make it easy to pop in for a quick bite or a longer meal.
Cons
-
Service can be a bit hit or miss at times, with some feeling overlooked or ignored, which puts a damper on the experience.
-
Breakfast service might not be the strongest, as staff sometimes prioritise hotel guests, leaving others waiting.
-
Ordering drinks via the Greene King app isn't the best idea; it's simpler to do it the old-fashioned way at the bar.

First and last time visiting this pub. We were staying at the Premier inn next door, so thought it was perfect opportunity to go for some tea after a busy day out. Firstly, the service was poor, completely ignored by all the staff apart from when they were taking our money. I ordered fish and chips, what could go wrong with that? Well the fish was so overcooked, it was inedible and the batter was so hard and chewy that I couldn't even cut through it! Not only that, but on the table next to us, a visiting manager was having a conversation with two members of staff which led to one of them crying. Happy or sad tears I couldn't tell, but not what you should be seeing at peak tea time in a busy pub!
Brilliant place. Staff were amazing and food was very good. Place was nice and clean.
The only fault was in the morning.
I popped in for a breakfast one morning, but the one member of staff working seemed priortised with the hotel guests.
I couldn't find a breakfast menu on the bar or table and when i tried the app there was no breakfast option. so I popped off to somewhere else.
Came back in the evening again for some food and all was back to normal with great service.
A nice, cosy pub overall. Usually quiet and plenty of seats, good food as well. Ideal for a light bite or a more hearty meal shated with a group. You can also order on the Greene King app, but I would not recommend it if you're ordering drinks
Simply love this place. Service is great. Staff are all very friendly. Food quality versus price is spot on. My favourite is the Gammon Steak. Plenty of vegetarian options, my wife likes the No chicken Katsu curry and my daughter the.mac n cheese. Most importantly dogs are welcome and great value dog menu!
Great food and great service. Nice atmosphere and friendly helpful staff. Booked a table for 7 for 3p.m. on a Saturday. Relatively quiet with plenty of parking. All food was served relatively quickly. Very nice.
