About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about the Ostrich Inn – it's this fabulous old coaching inn dating back to 1106, tucked away in Colnbrook near Heathrow, and it's got that perfect mix of history and homeliness that makes it stand out. I love how they've kept all the traditional features like the beams and fireplaces, but they've smartened it up with comfortable rooms and modern amenities, so it's ideal if you're looking for a quick overnight stop before a flight. The staff are just brilliant; they're so polite and eager to help, whether it's reserving a dog-friendly table or explaining the menu. Speaking of the menu, the food is top-notch – think proper pub classics made with fresh local ingredients, and it's served in a relaxed setting that makes you feel right at ease. Of course, it's not without its downsides; the airport proximity means you might hear a plane or two, and it can get busy, so booking ahead is a must to avoid any waits. All in all, though, it's a real gem for anyone wanting a taste of authentic English pub life with a side of convenience – I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The historic charm of this old coaching inn from 1106 is just wonderful, with beams, fireplaces, and a cosy atmosphere that makes you feel like you've stepped back in time.
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and helpful, always going the extra mile to make your visit enjoyable, whether you're popping in for a drink or staying overnight.
  • The food is spot on – honest, tasty pub grub made from fresh local ingredients, perfect for a hearty meal after a long day of travel.
  • Its location near Heathrow is a real boon for anyone flying in or out, with easy access via public transport, and it's even dog-friendly for those bringing their furry friends.
  • The rooms are comfortable and well-kept, offering a blend of classic style and modern touches like free WiFi, making it a great spot for a relaxing stay.
Cons
  • Being so close to the airport, it can get a bit noisy at times, which might disrupt a peaceful evening if you're sensitive to that sort of thing.
  • As a popular spot, it does fill up quickly, so you might have to wait for a table if you haven't booked ahead, especially during peak hours.
  • The historic building has its quirks, like uneven floors or stairs, which could make it a tad tricky for anyone with mobility issues.

Stayed here 2 nights while waiting for a flight out of LHR airport. Very convenient from LHR Terminal 5 on the 703 bus (10 minutes & £1.50). The staff were very helpful and friendly. Rooms are very cute and are currently being upgraded. The pub is wonderful and food very good.

Ostrich Inn, such a great place to stay for the night and such great quality home cooked proper pub food. Turned up late after getting back to the airport and saw it was in a good location and well priced. Had one room left and it was perfect. If you’re looking for a nice bit of food or a nice place to stay near Heathrow airport this would be the spot for you.

I loved staying here. It’s clean, cozy, and convenient to the airport and to public transportation. The people who work here are kind, friendly, helpful, and they do a great job keeping a beautiful old inn comfortable and up-to-date. Breakfast was very good, but I want to make some time to go back for dinner here. Also important, it’s pet-friendly. Now - if you don’t want to stay near a neighborhood pub or an airport, and you need total silence, it may not be for you. I found a nice balance between some peaceful pub goers and a few takeoffs and an otherwise quiet street, so it was perfect for me. Many thanks to the staff!

Staying at Heathrow and wanted to check out some local pubs. This place was everything i expected from an old English pub and more. Great old building with so much character. Our server was lovely and helpful explaining the menu items. I of course had the fish n chips. Fried in clean oil, nice n crispy served with mushy peas. Very good!! The beef pot pie and wings were also tasty. All washed down with some good local pilsner. Happy we came here. Nice bartender n friendly people.
