About This Pub
Ah, the Orchard Hotel – it's one of those places that really captures that traditional Scottish charm, standing proud in Falkirk since way back in 1786. I have to say, what stands out most is the friendly staff; they're always up for a chat and make you feel like you're catching up with old mates rather than just popping in for a drink. The location is spot on too – right in the town centre, it's perfect if you're exploring the area, whether it's for business, a bit of leisure, or even hiking the John Muir Way. And when the food's on form, it's genuinely tasty, with those home-cooked, locally sourced dishes that give you that comforting glow. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses; I've heard a few tales of meals not quite living up to expectations, like steaks turning up raw or getting the wrong sides, which can be frustrating after a long day. The rooms are straightforward but nothing fancy, and being in the thick of things means it can get a bit noisy at night. Overall, it's a decent spot for a relaxed pint and a catch-up, especially if you're with pets, but I'd suggest going in with realistic hopes – it's got heart, but like any old gem, it has its rough patches.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always making you feel right at home with their warm Scottish hospitality.
-
It's in a brilliant spot in the heart of Falkirk, close to attractions like The Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel, and easy to get to Edinburgh or Glasgow.
-
When the food hits the mark, it's delicious – think hearty, locally sourced home-cooked meals that really hit the spot.
-
They're pet-friendly, which is a lovely touch for anyone travelling with their furry friends.
Cons
-
Food can be a bit hit or miss, with some folks reporting undercooked dishes or wrong orders, which is a real shame.
-
The rooms are pretty basic and can get noisy in the town centre, so it's not the quietest spot for a good night's sleep.
-
Prices feel a tad steep for what you get, especially when compared to other options nearby.
-
There have been a few instances of less than ideal interactions with staff, which can leave a bit of a sour taste.

Staff very friendly food really nice room basic with own bathroom in middle of town so quite noisy close to attractions kelpies and Falkirk wheel
After being rejected by Carron Works Wetherspoons because of our dogs we were warmly greeted by the staff here that made sure that we were well looked after by providing a seating area outside and a bowl of water for our dogs. Food was delicious and we were very satisfied. Unfortunately the demolition of the shopping centre across the road was very disruptive otherwise we would've stayed longer but that's no fault of the hotel. Highly recommended.
My well done steak was raw. My wife ordered the steak pie with mash and veg and received pie mash and chips................. And for calling me a troll and a liar you've just lost the one star i gave you. If you don't like a review then ignore it.. don't attack your customers....clown 🤡
Not really sure where to start….we checked in for 2 nights to attend as wedding guests on the Sunday - we paid £168 for sat-sun which now we have been unfortunately to experience this we have left feeling terribly robbed! Theres a 4 star up the road that was nearly half price and I can’t believe this hotel is charging the price they are for these rooms.
There is no reception, just the bar to check in which is closed during the day, otherwise I would have complained at the time. We walked through a sad long hallway to get to the room and as you can see by the photos was a sorry state. Outdated furniture, the heating was on full blast enhancing the musty smell and the TV was older than me. There are no side lamps in the room, so if you want to go to the toilet in the night or don’t want to sit in the dark, the big light has to go on. My partner works offshore and said the beds at work are bigger than this “double bed” we are 5ft8 and 6ft respectively….see pic for reference..had to keep his socks on as his feet stuck out of the bed hahaha we could only laugh. There is a table and 2 chairs in the room and I have no idea what for - you’d think there would be a mirror especially as it is recommended as a hotel close to a very busy fully booked every week wedding
Venue for guests to get ready…don’t worry, there is a mirror in the bathroom that has no window so the lighting is terrible, and you can forget ladies doing your hair there as the only plug sockets are at the other side of the room! There is no plugs on the left side of the room anywhere, only next to the bed and behind the old wooden furniture leaving me to sit at the window with a tiny makeup palette mirror to curl my long hair and do my makeup for a wedding. I’d recommend if you still want to visit after reading this review you take your own standing mirror or an extension cable. Oh and maybe another towel to dry your hair as only one small towel is provided per guest.
I cannot recommend this hotel if you want to have a couple nights away for this price, especially if going to a wedding nearby in the area, the last thing you want is for the 7.45am to bang on your door at 8.15am and then start hoovering in the hall right outside your door at 8am after you’ve had a long day of celebrating with one too many pints. I’ve never stayed somewhere that a housekeeper is banging about the halls that early! Neither somewhere that there is a curfew to get in to the hotel after a certain time (there is an intercom that nobody answered and we can had to bang a window for a nightshift chef to come out and let us in?? Very strange set up). Google says this is a 3 star hotel; perhaps the AA hotel services rated this when they were founded in 1908 but I can assure you this cannot be a recent rating.
The management clearly really care about this place. Stayed for a couple of nights and started our road trip from here - got chatting to a lovely lady (the bar manager I think) who was super attentive every time we saw her. The rest of the staff were all fantastic as well!
Food is pretty good - we're veggies and the options were pretty okay. Veggie burger was tasty!
Lots of little touches too - complimentary mini bar and residents menu discount spring to mind.
Overall fantastic trip - management should be proud of the team and the place.
