About This Pub
Ah, O'Neill's York – it's one of those spots that just pulls you in with its inviting Irish charm right in the heart of the city. From what I've gathered from the buzz around, it's got this lively atmosphere that's spot on for catching up with friends over a pint or cheering on the big game with all those screens dotted about. The staff are absolute gems, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which really adds to the feel-good factor. Drinks are a highlight too, with a solid selection that keeps things affordable and exciting, especially if you're into your ciders or lagers. That outdoor courtyard is a nice bonus on a sunny day, giving you a bit of fresh air without losing the pub's cosy vibe. But let's be straight, it's not without its downsides – no cask ales means it might not satisfy the real ale enthusiasts, and without any bar games, it could feel a touch quiet if you're after more entertainment. The food's mentioned on their site, but not many have chimed in about it, so I'd say give it a go but temper your expectations. Overall, it's a solid choice for a good time in York, especially if you're up for music, sport, and that classic Irish craic – just pop in and see for yourself, you won't be disappointed!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always ready with a smile and quick service that makes you feel right at home.
-
It's got a fantastic atmosphere with great music, cheap drinks, and plenty of energy – perfect for a lively night out or celebrating with mates.
-
A wide range of beers, lagers, and ciders on tap, including Irish options, means there's something for everyone to enjoy.
-
Brilliant for watching sports with loads of screens, so you won't miss a moment of the big match.
-
The outside courtyard seating area is lovely for a relaxed drink when the weather's nice, adding a bit of charm to your visit.
Cons
-
No hand-pulled cask ales available, which might disappoint those after a more traditional pint.
-
Lacks bar games, so if you're looking for something interactive like darts or pool, you might find it a bit lacking.
-
The food menu sounds tempting, but some folks haven't tried it yet, and we don't have much feedback on that front – could be hit or miss.
-
Operating hours seem a tad confusing with varying times listed, and it might close earlier than you'd hope on some days, around 4 PM typically.

O' Neill's bar is a large modern bar near the river. There is a wide range of beers lager and cider but no hand-pulled cask ales. There are no bar games, but there was a tv showing sports. There is a nice outside courtyard seating area. I haven't tried the food, so i can't comment. The staff are friendly and welcoming.
Great venue! Great music, cheap drinks fantastic atmosphere! Such a good time for my friends birthday. A special thank you to the lovely bouncer Ish who helped me find my bag at the end of the night. Will defo be returning
Great little spot and good value for money. New menu looks good but yet to try. Friendly and helpful staff. Always stop in here when in York. Never disappoints! Keep up the good work 😀
Great pub, plenty of screens to watch sports. Plenty of drinks to choose from. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
This was a fantastic pub for drinking, with an old school design echoing the atmosphere of York itself! The bar is well-presented, also continuing this with the barrels and staff were friendly. Irish cider has availability on tap which is great and I sat on leather seating, cleanliness maintained too!
