About This Pub

Ah, the Old Crown – it's one of those pubs that really warms your cockles on a chilly evening, isn't it? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this inviting, homely feel with a spotlessly clean interior that's just perfect for sinking into a chair with a pint of superb Abbot ale. The food steals the show too; those curries are bang on, with options to tweak the spice just how you like it, and at prices that won't leave you out of pocket. The staff sound like absolute gems, always ready with a smile and top-notch service that makes you feel welcome from the get-go. But, let's be straight, it's not all roses – one chap wasn't too keen, saying it doesn't quite match up to the other pubs around, especially with the outside area that could be brilliant but isn't quite there. And with the place closed right now, it's a bit of a waiting game. Still, if you're in Wigston and it's back up and running, I'd say give it a go for that great ale and grub; it's got real potential to be a favourite spot for a casual night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The ale is absolutely spot on – especially the Abbot, which comes in excellent condition and is a real treat for ale lovers.
  • The food's a winner, with tasty and reasonably priced curries that you can customise to your spice preference, all made fresh to order.
  • The staff are lovely and helpful, serving up a warm welcome and making you feel right at home with their friendly chat.
  • It's got that classic cosy pub vibe, like a welcoming front room with a clean, well-kept interior that's perfect for a relaxed evening.
  • Prices are fair, so you can enjoy a good meal and a drink without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • The pub seems to be closed at the moment, which is a real shame as it puts a hold on popping in for a pint.
  • One person mentioned it's not quite up to the standard of other local pubs, particularly with the outside space that has potential but isn't living up to it yet.
  • The ale selection is a bit limited, with just the one option available, which might disappoint those after more variety.

I was drinking Abbot in here on Friday night, it was in excellent condition and very tasty. Ate a very tasty and reasonably priced curry in the pub. A good menu and very pleasantly served. Highly recommended

I don't like leaving poor reviews about small pubs who are having a difficult time but I have to be honest. There is potential here, the outside space could be fantastic but right now it's not. There are a lot of good pubs in the area and this is not one of them.

Went for my friend birthday and the food was amazing, the staff were lovely. You could choose how spicy you wanted your curry which was amazing. Everything was made to order. I had a medium spicy chicken jalfrezi with chip, a naan bread that was huge and some onion bhaji. All was amazing would definitely recommend and go again.

Now I very rarely give 5 stars. This is your classic "front room" pub, very cosy and welcoming. Pub is split into the The saloon bar (where everyone is) and the public bar which has a pool table. One ale on, abbot (understandable for the turnover) but served very well, better than the two steeples(!) besides that usual keg fare, but one oddity of theakstons bitter on squirt. Again very friendly, thoroughly recommend.

The bar staff were very helpful and friendly and the ale that l chose to drink, Abbot Ale, was superb. The lounge, where I was drinking, was spotlessly clean and everyone inside were following the social distancing rules with the place was clearly marked as to which route to follow around the pub, where to enter and where to exit.
