About This Pub

Ah, Oakwood – it's one of those pubs that really pulls you in with its warm, family-run charm in the heart of Leigh-on-Sea. From what I've gathered chatting about it, the staff are absolute gems; they're always up for a laugh and make you feel like a regular from the get-go, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or settling in for the evening. The atmosphere is spot on for live music nights or watching the big games, and the food often hits the mark with hearty options like a cracking veggie breakfast or those generous portions that won't leave you hungry. It's got all the extras too, like a lovely beer garden and pool tables, making it a top choice for a relaxed day out or a lively gathering. But, let's keep it real, there have been a few slip-ups, like that disappointing Sunday roast that one person mentioned – frozen veg and all, which might make you think twice for special meals. Still, with its affordable prices and community feel, it's a solid spot for us lot to enjoy, as long as you go in with the right expectations and maybe avoid the roasts if you're feeling picky. All in all, it's worth a visit for a good time with friends, just remember to check what's on to suit your mood!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a warm smile and great service that makes you feel right at home.
  • It's got a fantastic atmosphere, especially for live music and events like Abba tributes or sports screenings – perfect for a fun night out with mates.
  • The food is generally spot on, with tasty options like a delicious all-day vegetarian breakfast and generous portions that offer brilliant value for money.
  • Loads of space and facilities, including a beer garden, pool tables, and plenty of seating, making it ideal for families or groups looking to unwind.
  • Being affordable and community-focused, it's a great spot for catching up over drinks or enjoying local events without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • Food quality can be hit or miss; that Sunday roast didn't impress one visitor, with frozen veg and a microwaved taste putting a dampener on things.
  • It might get a bit lively during sports events, which could spoil the vibe if you're after a quiet, peaceful catch-up.
  • Parking can be an issue when it's busy, so you might end up hunting around for a spot even though there's usually plenty available.

Been here many times for mid week lunch, but today went for Sunday roast, which was not good. Frozen vegetables, and tasted microwaved. I was going to book Christmas dinner there, but not now. Other food I've had there has been lovely.

Just a fantastic pub! I had my 50th birthday there for the Abba tribute, and the singers were incredible, the pub staff and management so friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere so good. If you want a fun night out, with great bands, it’s fantastic. Thank you Oakwood!!

Nice pub full of locals. Deceptively bigger than you think, so plenty of seating. Popped here for a meeting with suppliers and a few drinks. Was welcomed by a very friendly member of staff and a warm smile in Rhiannon. It's always nice to see people enjoying their work and looking after customers. Would definitely return when we are back in the area!

Visited a few times during the week in the evening for a catch-up meal and always leave impressed. Nice quiet atmosphere (when there's no sports on) polite service, great food and short wait times! Not to mention the price to portion ratio! Lots of parking at the pub but if busy plenty of space on the road. Will definitely be a regular visitor during the week.

I had a lovely all-day vegetarian breakfast with everything being cooked so deliciously! The vegan sausages were especially good. The chef knows what she/he is doing! The staff was lively and lovely, chatty if you wanted to be or respectful if you wanted to read/write (like i was). I sat in the round window by the sun, food arrived quickly and the girls were attentive if anything needed replenishing etc. Lovely pub.
