About This Pub
You know, when I popped into Miller & Carter Rayleigh, I have to say it really hit the spot for a proper steak fix. They've got this whole ethos about sourcing the best beef ethically and ageing it just right, which shows in every bite – it's no surprise they've been recognised as masters of their craft. The service is what makes it stand out even more; the team are so warm and on point, chatting away and making sure everything's just how you like it, which is lovely for a family meal or catching up with mates. Prices are fair too, especially if you go for one of their set menus, giving you a taste of the good stuff without the hefty bill. On the flip side, it's not all glitz and glamour inside – it's more about that homely feel, and while the mains are spot on, a few sides like the chips didn't quite live up to the hype in some reviews. All in all, it's a solid pick for anyone in Essex craving a great steak without any pretentious nonsense; just remember to book ahead if it's a busy day!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The steaks are absolutely divine – think melt-in-the-mouth cuts like the 50-day aged fillet, all sourced ethically and cooked to perfection, which is why they've snagged that 'Masters of Steak' award.
-
Service is top-notch; the staff are incredibly attentive and friendly, making you feel right at home, whether it's a quick lunch or a special occasion.
-
Great value for money, especially with options like the two-course lunch menu that packs in delicious food without breaking the bank.
-
It's got a cosy, welcoming vibe with a nice alfresco area, perfect for a relaxed meal off the A127 in Leigh-on-Sea.
Cons
-
It's not the fanciest spot inside – more about comfort than glamour, so if you're after something ultra-posh, it might feel a tad understated.
-
Some sides can be hit or miss; for instance, the chunky chips were lukewarm and soft in one experience, which is a bit disappointing alongside the stellar mains.

We arrived very early so it was very quiet but the seats filled up after a while. Me and my son had a lovely lunch with excellent service, very attentive and looked after us well. The food is delicious and the 2 course lunch menu is really good value for money. The next time we are in the area we would like to return.
Food was absolutely unbelievable, had the black Angus 50 day aged fillet and they certainly know how to cook a good steak. Scallop and pork belly starter was also amazing. Not a super fancy place inside but it’s cozy and take the snobbery away from eating nice food.
Visited for a birthday meal and was thoroughly impressed. Had the full rack of BBQ ribs which had one the the best sauces I've come across.
The chocolate sharing dessert was pretty unique, somewhere between fudge, sponge and brownie and the sizing was generous.
Food was fantastic all round and out server Nicola was lovely.
I never really leave reviews, however considering how great Harry was as our waiter I couldn’t not. Tonight was our first dinner out since having our little one, we were quite anxious. Although it was so refreshing and nice for a waiter to ask how we were, how our day was going! Wow we’ve never had that before & to actually listen to our reply, great guy. He was so kind, polite & attentive. I do really believe this young person deserves recognition. As stated we were anxious about leaving our little one to squeeze in a date but just speaking with Harry made us feel so welcome & we really enjoyed ourselves! Food was delicious! £35 for 3 lovely courses & amazing portions?! We have since recommended this restaurant to family, shared on socials and will definitely return! Thanks Harry! :)
Great service from SJ, she’s very personable.
Great steaks, really melt in mouth. Great sides. (Mac and cheese, beef shin, greens, except chunky chips weren’t great, as were luke warm and so soft.) Starters also very good. Prawn cocktail, chicken wings, halloumi fries. As always the wedge salads were very fresh. Had a great visit.
