About This Pub

Ah, Nova Scotia – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper Bristol institution, doesn't it? Picture this: you're sat outside with a pint in hand, soaking up those incredible harbour views, and maybe even spotting the Clifton Suspension Bridge in the distance. The drinks selection is spot on; they've got all sorts of cask ales and ciders that really hit the spot, and at prices that won't break the bank – I mean, who can argue with a cheeky half for just £2? It's got that friendly, community feel too, where everyone seems to be having a laugh, and being dog-friendly just adds to the charm. Plus, if you're planning a get-together, the function room upstairs is a handy option for making memories. But, let's be honest, it does have its off moments; on a packed day, like after a rugby match, things can get a bit frantic, with service slowing down and some popular brews running out. And every now and then, you might bump into someone who's not quite in the spirit of things, which can be a bit of a buzzkill. Overall, though, it's a solid spot for a relaxed catch-up or a cheeky afternoon session – I'd say give it a go, but maybe aim for a quieter time if you're after a more laid-back vibe.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The location is an absolute gem, right by the harbour with stunning views of Bristol Harbour and the Clifton Suspension Bridge – perfect for a scenic pint.
  • They've got a cracking selection of drinks, including a variety of cask ales, ciders, lagers, and spirits, with Thatcher's Traditional on tap, which is a real treat.
  • Prices are spot on for a good night out; you can get a half pint for just £2, making it easy on the wallet.
  • It's super welcoming and friendly, with a warm atmosphere that makes you feel right at home, and they're dog-friendly too, so you can bring your furry mate along.
  • The upstairs function room is great for gatherings, whether it's a birthday bash or a casual meet-up with friends.
Cons
  • It can get a bit overwhelmed during busy times, like after events, which might mean slower service and waits for your drink.
  • Sometimes they run out of certain beers when it's packed, so the choices might be limited if you're after something specific.
  • There might be the odd disruptive character around, as one person mentioned, which could put a dampener on things occasionally.

Really friendly & welcoming, interesting waterwayside location. Very reason prices for Beer: They say their most expensive is £6 a Pint. I had half a London Pride, for £2.

50 year old problem drinker here. Love the pub but there's one sober idiot who seems to think he's better than everyone else. Any chance of barring him?

Took Croatian visitors for a taste of a traditional Bristol pub. It didn't disappoint! Great service, can recommend the sandwiches for lunch, some great choices.

A great pub in a lovely location. They were slightly overwhelmed with the number of people arriving after leaving the rugby so service was quite slow. Unfortunately the summer weather had caused a rush of punters so they had run out of a lot of beers so the choices were a bit limited. The curse of success!

Popped down for lunch with me mum and had a really nice time! Proper village pub feel right on Bristol harbour. We both really enjoyed our food, the crab salad special was particularly good. VERY reasonably priced and a really good selection of drinks
