About This Pub
Ah, The York – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper London gem, tucked away in Islington with that timeless British charm. You walk in and it's all about the cosy, old-fashioned atmosphere, with mirrors behind the bar and ceiling details that make you pause and appreciate the history. The beers are a real highlight; they've got a fantastic range on tap, and there's something satisfying about settling in with a cold pint after a busy day. The food's generally a treat too – I loved the pies and burgers when I tried them, and it's a great spot for a relaxed meal or just catching up with mates. On the flip side, it's a bit of a pity that the prices can feel high for what you get, and some portions are smaller than you'd hope, like those pies that left me eyeing the menu for seconds. Still, it's a welcoming place with solid service, and if you're after a traditional pub experience without the crowds, it's well worth a visit – just go in with realistic expectations and you'll have a lovely time.
Pros and Cons

-
The location is spot on, right near Angel station, making it dead easy to pop in after work or before heading out.
-
Service is generally warm and welcoming, with staff who know their stuff and create a friendly vibe.
-
The food hits the mark on classics like pies and burgers – when it's good, it's really tasty and satisfying.
Cons
-
Prices can be a bit steep for a casual night out, especially when you're paying for pub grub that might not feel like great value.
-
Portions on some dishes, like the pies, can be on the skimpy side, leaving you wanting more for your money.
-
A few food items might not quite live up to expectations, such as steak that's a tad fatty, which is a shame for an otherwise solid menu.

They were playing the Arsenal away match and the pints were nice and cold which was refreshing. Many beers on tap. Great location close to Angel station.
Very traditional old fashioned boozer with great service. Check the mirrors behind the bar. Reminiscent of early 20th century pub architecture. An array of ceiling roses is a quirky addition. Nice big space, not too crowded on a Thursday night 9pm. Cheers.
Don’t know where to start. Perfect lovely location. Great service by good staff. Good selection of ales. Just awesome neighbourhood area. Its creating amazing atmosphere. Even it was cold but i love to sit out and enjoy the street view.prices are bit high but goes good according to area. Worth to visit.
We went to try the award winning pies. Pie was good although steak was a bit fatty, the gravy was geat. But for £17 I would expect more than two wrinkly carrots and half tablespoon of mash potatoes. It's a shame...definitely not worth the money
It was our very first time in the pub, but maybe it won't be the last one.
We arrived prior to go to a theatre play and we got what we needed... Food and drinks!
The steak pay was delicious, and the burger was really tasty.
I don't know if you need to book, because it's a quiet popular place in an active street. We were very lucky getting a table just when somebodies else were leaving.
