About This Pub
Ah, the Northern Bar – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a second home, you know? Tucked away on George Street in Aberdeen, it's been around since 1839, serving up that classic community vibe with a modern twist. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff are the real stars here; they're incredibly friendly and make every visit feel special, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or settling in for the pub quiz. The food is another highlight – think delicious steaks, fresh ingredients, and generous portions that won't break the bank, with drinks priced just right for a midweek treat. They've got all sorts going on, like live sports screenings for events such as the Women's Euros, plus quizzes and music nights that keep things entertaining. It's dog-friendly with a beer garden to boot, so it's great for a casual day out. On the flip side, there was a mention of some past hiccups that put a few people off, but it sounds like they've turned things around with the new crew. Also, if you're an early riser, you might find the serving starts a bit late, and it's not the bargain basement option, so it could add up on a big sesh. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone in Aberdeen looking for a welcoming spot to unwind – I'd say give it a go and see for yourself!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly, welcoming, and up for a bit of banter, which really makes the place feel like a proper community hub.
-
Food and drinks are spot on; think tasty sizzling steaks, well-crafted cocktails, and local beers at very reasonable prices, with pints starting from just £3.99.
-
It's got a relaxed and charming atmosphere, perfect for catching live sports, enjoying pub quizzes, poker nights, or folk music sessions.
-
Loads of great facilities like being dog-friendly, having a beer garden, and even WiFi, so it's ideal for a casual meet-up with mates.
-
With its history dating back to 1839, it offers that warm, traditional pub vibe while still feeling fresh and inviting.
Cons
-
One review mentioned some past issues that drove folks away temporarily, though it seems they've sorted it out with the new team – still, it's worth noting if you're after consistency.
-
Serving hours start around midday, so it's not the best for a cheeky early breakfast or morning pint if you're up with the larks.
-
As a moderate-priced spot, it might not be the cheapest option in Aberdeen for a big night out, especially if you're watching the pennies.

Great pub with equality decent food. Relaxed atmosphere with class pub quizzes, poker and folk music held through the week that combined with very reasonable prices with pints as low as 3.99 (Tennents), it's definitely an establishment I'd recommend.
An absolute gem in the city, with tasty sizzling steaks and charming atmosphere to enjoy with your friends. The staff is just beyond ace, always up for a banter that’s topped up with a very wide and friendly smile. We’ll be back there soon!

Been going here since I moved to Aberdeen, great prices for food and drink! Quality is always exceptional.
