About This Pub

Ah, No.8 Seven Sisters—it's one of those London haunts that's part of a small chain of pubs, and from what I've gathered chatting about reviews, it's got a bit of a mixed bag going on. The overall rating sits at a middling 3.5, which means some people have had a decent time, but blimey, others have shared some right horror stories that make you think twice. On the bright side, it's brilliantly affordable, just like it was years ago, so if you're after a cheap spot for a quick drink or even a stay, that could be a winner, especially with the friendly staff who go out of their way to help. I hear the kitchen's a buzzing spot where you might strike up a chat with like-minded travellers, adding a warm, community feel that's quite charming. But, honestly, it's not all rosy; there are tales of the place being downright filthy, with mould creeping up the walls and floors that never seem to dry, which isn't what you want when you're out for a relaxed evening. Then there's the worry about safety, with stories of theft and some unsavoury characters making it less inviting. If you're pondering a visit, I'd say it's worth considering if you're on a tight budget and up for a bit of adventure, but do keep your wits about you and maybe check it out during the day first. All in all, it's got potential, but you'd want to balance those pros with the cons for a proper pint-pulling experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's budget-friendly, with prices that haven't skyrocketed like so many places in London, making it a solid choice if you're keeping an eye on your wallet.
  • The staff can be absolute gems; one reviewer raved about Alexandra and how helpful she is, especially for female visitors, which adds a welcoming touch.
  • There's a lively community feel in the kitchen area, where people mingle and share stories, giving it a bit of that classic pub camaraderie.
Cons
  • Hygiene is a major letdown, with reports of mouldy walls, wet floors, and grubby facilities that could put anyone off their pint.
  • Security issues abound, like theft of belongings and some unsettling behaviour from other guests, which makes you feel less than safe.
  • The staff don't always step up when needed, with complaints about incompetence and not dealing with problems, leaving things feeling a bit chaotic.

Truly considered sleeping under a bush in the park. Walls and floors were permanently wet and covered in mold, staff were no help at all, and to top it all off, I woke up to a man masturbating while making direct eye contact with me. Decided to sleep on the airport floor for the last night☠️

Appealing experience. Never going there again. There's this guy that has been there for months that snores so loudly you can hear in the next room, and he goes through people's stuff and yet the hostel doesn't want to kick him out. Incompetent staff. Stuff getting stolen every other week. Please rethink before going there.

I have been to more than 20 European countries and I can safely say that this was my worst experience. The hostel is full of alcoholics and drug addicts and the facilities reflect that. Dirty beds, dirty toilets and dirty kitchen. Avoid this hostel at all costs.

I stayed here almost 10 years ago. And while the place has seen some big changes. The price is still comparable today as it was back then. Sure the times have changed post pandemic, and yes the vibe is a bit different with today's backpackers and locals. Yet the best aspect in my opinion, and one to point out.. is the No.8 staff and service still go above and beyond most guests expectations. Rob at reception/bar has been most helpful recently with my current visit just like he was 9 yrs ago, when I 1st moved to the area, and was a guest for 10 days. I made friends here 9yrs ago whom im still in contact with. I highly recommend this hostel for those seeking the best price for quality. Guests receive discounted drinks in the bar below the hostel, which has 2 Dart boards, a pool table, and a dj booth for special events. Easy walking distance to Tube, Overground and Bus stops of popular routes. Outside food is welcomed. Theres a shared kitchen with all amenities stove, oven, microwave, 2 large sinks, fridges, freezer, and most of your basic kitchen utensils, and cookware. Only thing lacking were spoons. Theres at least 6 showers. 2 w/c, plus the bar toilets. Free Wi-Fi. In room personal lockers. Are just some of the amenities the No. 8 Seven Sisters Hostel has to offer. My thanks once again to the No.8 staff for another wonderful stay and experience.

This was my first experience at a youth hostel, so I was apprehensive, but this place really surprised me. First and foremost, the staff and management deserve high praise. If you are a female, then Alexandra is your girl. The fellow lodgers were respectful, and the kitchen always bustled with good energy. The washrooms were pretty clean for a facility that accommodates so many people. I enjoyed their pub and outdoor space as well. You'll find a Tube station within walking distance, plenty of buses, and major supermarkets around the corner. A big shoutout to the Turkish store lady across the road for being incredibly helpful and friendly. I loved getting to know people here and would love to stay again whenever I travel next. This place is affordable, clean, convenient, and full of super friendly individuals. Oh, and in case you are wondering, I got my key deposit back. 😉
