About This Pub
Ah, Mulberry Tree Brewers Fayre in Braintree – it's one of those places that feels like a reliable old mate, you know? Tucked away by the bypass, it's got that easy-going atmosphere where you can pop in for a quick breakfast starting from as early as 6:30am, or linger over a Sunday carvery that's packed with juicy meats and all the trimmings for a steal. I've got to say, the value is top-notch; those £5 lunch mains and hearty breakfast options have folks coming back time and again, especially if you're looking to save a few quid without skimping on taste. The staff really make it shine too – regulars chat about how helpful and cheerful they are, always ready to sort out any little issues with a smile. It's particularly ace for families, with that indoor play area keeping the kids entertained while you relax with a drink. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses; there have been times when orders get muddled, like missing bits from a big group meal, which can put a dampener on things. And if you're seated near the doors, it might feel a tad nippy, so it's worth asking for a cozier spot. Overall, though, with a solid 3.9 rating from heaps of reviews, it's a place I'd recommend for a laid-back meal – just go in with realistic expectations, and you're in for a good time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The prices are spot on – you can grab mains for just £5 during lunchtimes, making it a brilliant budget-friendly option for a bite with mates.
-
Staff are absolutely lovely and attentive; from what I've heard, folks like Sam and Jay go the extra mile to make sure everything's just right.
-
It's family-friendly with an indoor play area for the little ones, open all week from 12pm to 7pm, which is perfect if you're out with kids.
-
The Sunday carvery is a real winner, with options like turkey, beef, or gammon for under £12, plus unlimited sides – it's become a weekly treat for many.
-
Value for money shines through in the breakfasts and overall menu variety, with regulars raving about the deals that make eating out cheaper than cooking at home.
Cons
-
There can be the odd mix-up with orders, like items going missing, which might leave you a bit frustrated if you're counting on a full meal.
-
Some tables, especially near the kids' area, can get chilly with doors opening and closing, so you might need to ask for a move if it's a cold day.
-
While most reviews are positive, the overall rating of 3.9 suggests it's not perfect for everyone, with a few folks having less than stellar experiences.

First table we were sat at was freezing and by the kids area as doors constantly being opened, but staff happily moved us no problem at all. Lovely meal, great prices, attentive staff and very friendly. Love this little place ❤️
I’m a regular in this branch. The £5 Meal is the best thing on the menu here. It’s honestly cheaper to eat here a few times a week than eating at home! (Plus they do the washing up!) a big shout out to Sam, Alison, Jay &
Lewis who will look after you here.
Repeat breakfast guests. We love the value for money. Variety of food and drinks. And the staff are always happy to provide a great service. We always order extra items from the kitchen too and this service is impeccable. Sam and Jay are particularly great servers.
So we stopped here for a bite to eat before our flight from Stansted airport and again following our return flight before heading home.
On the first occasion we sat on table #53 and were served by both Louis S and Alison B. On the second occassion we sat on table #50 whereby we were served again by the lovely Alison.
We thoroughly enjoyed our food on both visits, we highly recommend the Buttermilk Goujons for starters. The Breaded Mushrooms were lovely albeit on the first occasion the outer Breaded part was quite difficult to get into with the fork to cut. (Warning they are very hot, but lovely) The Lasagne (inc. piece of Garlic Bread and Salad) and Gammon (inc. Egg, Pineapple, Skin on Fries & Peas) were great for Mains. Some of the best Mains we've had in a variety of restaurants of late.
On the second occasion we also had room to fit an Caramel Apple Betty and Mini Knickerbocker Glory Sundae.
We need to say thank you to the chef Dave on the latter occassion.. not sure who the chef was on our first visit but thank you anyway.
Really good food with great service 👌. Good value for money. We ordered from the Value Meals (available 12-6pm Mon-Fri) 2 Mains for £11.49 with selected Starters or Desserts an extra £2.99.
In terms of the Bottomless Softdrink, this is self served from the machine. (£3.50) Although the signage enroute above appears to resmeble the Pepsi logo the options include Coke Zero, Diet Coke, Schweppes Lemonade, Fanta & Dr Pepper.. (with flavours)..
We liked the fact that Alison offered to refill our drink and also bring the card machine to us, we felt she was super engaging, lovely, polite, friendly and professional.
We will certainly be returning..
Myself and the rest of my group had a large order with some items missing the other meals were given to us no problem aside from the missing couple but the three mixed (all paid for), grills two normal and one upgraded, we received two, the upgraded but only one normal, now this would be fine if we had got another normal one cooked up and given to us but the server refused responsibility and so the manager came and reviewed the receipt and gave us another once everything was confirmed but made us pay for it and the other item's they missed.
Then after we had finished our food the same waitress came and took a couple of plates then didn't bother to get the rest after seeing they were ready to be taken and only took them after she told us to leave rather rudely.
