About This Pub
Ah, McDwyers – it's one of those gems in Birmingham that just feels like a proper old-school pub, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff are absolute stars; they're friendly, efficient, and really make an effort to help out, especially if you're booking it for a function or just popping in for a pint. The beer comes highly recommended, and it's got that warm, nostalgic atmosphere that's perfect for unwinding with mates after a long day. On the flip side, it's a bit sad to hear some folks chatting about how places like this might not last much longer due to the area changing, which could be a downer if you're fond of traditional spots. Plus, a couple of reviews hinted at not having everything on the drinks front, like a good ale, so it might not hit the mark for everyone. All in all, if you're after a reliable, no-fuss pub with great service, it's worth a visit, but keep in mind it has its quirks – just like chatting about your favourite local haunts over a beer!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The service is spot on – staff like Mark are incredibly helpful and go the extra mile, whether it's sorting out catering for a function or recommending a DJ.
-
It's got that classic old pub vibe, which is a real treat these days, making it feel cosy and authentic for a good pint and a chat.
-
The beer selection gets high marks from folks, with plenty of positive nods to the quality and variety on offer.
-
Brilliant for events and gatherings; it's flexible and accommodating, perfect if you're planning a party or a doo with friends.
Cons
-
There's a bit of a worry about its future, as it's one of those traditional spots that might not stick around with changing areas and demographics.
-
Some visitors mentioned missing out on certain drinks like ale, which could leave a few folks wanting more options on the menu.
-
It might feel a tad outdated for those after a more modern pub experience, so it won't suit everyone looking for something trendy.

Stumbled across this place so decided to stop off for a drink. Not many of these pubs left and within the next 5 to 10 years they will be gone...which is sad but the demographics are/have changed.
Popped in today for a cpl of pints as me and the wife were out for a walk and a few beers.... good service nice old pub good beer 👍👍👍😎😎😎😎
I was there for a doo and it went well. An ale would be nice but I cannot complain.

Booked McDwyers for our function yesterday and we would definitely come here again for future parties. Mark was incredibly helpful, providing us with catering options, a recommendation for a DJ and flexibility on getting in to decorate the room. On the day, service was excellent from Mark and his staff, keeping the buffet topped up regularly, quick and friendly service at the bar and glasses cleared promptly. We had an excellent, hassle free day and can't thank Mark and the team enough for helping us to celebrate our special occasion.
