About This Pub
Ah, Mariners Compass Public House – it's one of those places that just warms you up from the get-go, isn't it? From the reviews I've had a look at, folks are absolutely buzzing about the friendly staff and that lovely, welcoming atmosphere where you can kick back and feel like you're among mates. The cider selection sounds unbeatable, and they've got some cracking food options too, especially if you're into vegan stuff or their homemade garlic mayo – it's getting rave reviews for a reason! It's also dead handy for events, like one person mentioned for a family wake, with brilliant buffets and a real community feel. On the flip side, though, their website's a bit of a mess, so you might struggle to find up-to-date details online, and those operating hours look a bit muddled with all the repeats, which could catch you out if you're planning a visit. Still, with a solid 4.3 rating from the crowd, it's clear this spot does a lot right and is worth checking out for a proper pub experience – just maybe give them a ring first to confirm the deets.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
It's a cosy and relaxing spot, perfect for unwinding with a pint and chatting with mates – the atmosphere is just spot on.
-
They've got a brilliant selection of ciders and some top-notch food options, including ace vegan choices and in-house made treats like garlic mayo.
-
The pub is clean, nicely decorated, and even dog-friendly, so you can pop in with your four-legged friend without a worry.
-
It's great for special occasions, like wakes or gatherings, with exceptional buffets and a welcoming vibe from the regulars.
Cons
-
Their online presence is a bit lacking, with a wonky website that might make it tricky to get the latest info before you head over.
-
The operating hours seem a tad confusing with repeated listings, which could leave you scratching your head about when they're actually open.
-
While it's inexpensive, which is a plus, there aren't many mentions of variety beyond the cider and food highlights, so it might not suit everyone looking for something more diverse.

Friendly welcome. Clean and nicely decorated. Dog friendly.
Went there for my Aunt's wake and it was lovely. Staff and regulars were friendly and the spread they put on for the buffet was exceptional.
Love the space they've created for cozies, it really is lovely and cozie, amazing food and brilliant staff I am definitely going back again and would definitely recommend going here 🙂
By far and away the best pub in Gorleston, if not the county! For cider lovers, food lovers and those who appreciate great service. Top notch vegan range, their garlic mayo is made in-house and was the best I've ever had! The cider selection is unrivalled anywhere and was delicious. The pub is spacious, the restaurant is cosy and the beer garden is clean and nicely maintained. Toilets are also very nice. Cant wait to come back and suggest you empty your pockets here!!
