About This Pub
Ah, Margo's Lounge – it's one of those spots that really warms your heart when it's on form, tucked away on Bells Road just behind the lovely Gorleston promenade. I have to say, the friendly staff stand out as the real stars; they're so attentive and make you feel like you're catching up with old mates over a cuppa. The food is generally a treat too, with their homemade cakes and fresh meals that cater to all sorts of dietary needs – it's brilliant for a hearty breakfast or a light lunch. And if you're into browsing, the gifts in the cellar add a fun touch to the visit. But, let's be honest, it's not all sunshine; I've heard a few stories about phone interactions going south, which might leave you a bit miffed before you even step inside. Plus, some reviews mention the coffee not quite hitting the spot or certain dishes feeling a bit underwhelming for the price. Overall, with such a solid rating, it's mostly a winner, but I'd suggest popping in with realistic expectations and maybe booking ahead to avoid any hiccups – it's a gem worth trying if you're in the area, but keep an eye out for those off days.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
They serve up delicious homemade cakes and tasty treats using fresh, local ingredients, with plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options to suit all tastes.
-
It's a cosy, retro cafe with a charming atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed breakfast or lunch by the Gorleston promenade.
-
Don't miss the gifts in the cellar – it's a nice little bonus for picking up something special while you're there.
Cons
-
Some folks have had off experiences with staff over the phone, coming across as a bit rude, which can put a damper on things before you even arrive.
-
There are a few gripes about food quality, like burnt coffee or tinned ingredients that don't quite live up to expectations.
-
It can feel a tad overpriced for what you get at times, and availability of certain items, like afternoon tea, might not always match up with what you're hoping for.
-
With limited opening hours – just Tuesday to Saturday from 9am to 3pm – it might not be ideal if you're planning a spontaneous visit.

Jesus the member on the phone was like the worst I told her how rude she came across. I’ve been before and the food isn’t all that tinned sweetcorn and coffee is always burnt. Not worth the money. 👍
What a lovely place. From the moment we walked in we were made so welcome. The staff are so friendly and can't do enough for you. We were there for afternoon tea which was exceptional. Food was outstanding. We will definitely go back. Thank you
Very friendly staff
Having today's special of Sweet Potato and carrot soup, very lightly spiced and warming on this freezing day
Also popped into the RNLI shop in the cellar (Tues-Sat, 10-2). Volunteers also friendly with a nice range of gifts to buy
Had breakfast two days in a row. Very good. I'm a fussy eater and one of my children is diabetic and the staff were great dealing with that.
Social distancing, face shields for staff and a one way system all of which was being done properly makes this a place you can also eat safely in.
Highly recommended.
Very disappointing. We travelled a long time for this outlet. No afternoon tea as on wrong day. Asked if white or brown bread only given brown . Not worth a visit.
