About This Pub
Ah, Lock 91 – what a lovely little find in the heart of Manchester! I've got to say, it's one of those places that just draws you in with its rich history as a restored 19th-century cottage, all decked out with charming exposed bricks and wooden beams that give it that cosy, timeless feel. The cocktails are an absolute highlight; they're made with such care, using fresh ingredients and top-shelf spirits, so whether you're after a classic like a Manhattan or their signature Lock 91 Sour, you're in for a treat. And if you're planning any kind of do – from a quiet birthday to a full-blown wedding – the team here really shines, tailoring everything to your needs and making the whole experience seamless with their versatile spaces and that scenic canal-side terrace. Folks rave about the welcoming vibe and how helpful the staff are, which makes it feel like a proper friendly spot for catching up with mates. On the flip side, though, it's a bit of a shame that it's not open every day, so you might have to plan around their schedule if you're keen to pop in. Plus, with stairs involved and no lift, it might not suit everyone, and being over 18 only means it's more of an adults-only affair. All in all, it's a solid choice for a sophisticated evening, but just keep those little niggles in mind to set your expectations right – I'd still give it a go for a special occasion!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The historic charm of this 19th-century Lock Keeper’s cottage is absolutely delightful, with exposed brick walls and rustic beams that make you feel like you've stepped back in time while still enjoying a modern vibe.
-
Their cocktails are top-notch – crafted with fresh ingredients and premium spirits, offering everything from classics to unique house specials that really hit the spot.
-
It's a brilliant spot for events, whether it's a birthday bash, wedding, or just a get-together; the staff go above and beyond to make everything run smoothly, and there's plenty of space for up to 300 guests across stylish floors and a lovely canal-side terrace.
-
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a relaxed outdoor area that's perfect for enjoying a drink on a nice evening, and the service from the team is friendly and attentive, based on what folks have shared.
Cons
-
It seems like they don't open every day, only about four days a week, which might make it tricky if you're planning a spontaneous visit or live further afield.
-
There are some accessibility challenges, like stairs to get to certain areas and no lift, so it might not be the easiest for everyone to navigate.
-
As it's strictly over 18 inside and out, it's not ideal if you're looking for a family-friendly outing or something more inclusive for all ages.
-
With a moderate price level, things can add up, especially if you're opting for their premium drinks or hiring the space for an event, so it's worth keeping an eye on the budget.

We had the most amazing 30th birthday party here. The venue was literally perfect and the outside space is amazing for any event! I could not recommend this venue enough. The staff were so friendly and helpful throughout the night and it was literally perfect! :)
Cocktail bar that makes great cocktails and a variety of beers and wine. I would recommend and there’s plenty of outdoor seating. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Please note it’s over 18 only inside and out.
We held a surprise party here on Saturday and it the team honestly could not have been any better. They were incredibly professional, kind and also very personable. They helped set the party up as we were slightly crunched for time and also helped the party run incredibly smoothly from beginning to end. Would 100% recommend for anyone wishing to host a party or event here. HUGE shout out Ruby, Trinity and Tom who made this experience as good as possible🙌🏻🙌🏻
Went upstairs to the little gig space. Really nice for small intimate gigs. No lift but only small flight of stairs. Separate bar and toilets upstairs within the space, so once up, there's no need to keep going up and down which is a bonus. Also a place for hanging coats (not secure though) and the odd table and chair dotted about. I was on crutches and one of the bar staff very kindly brought me a high stool up so I could sit down and watch the bands. Nice experience all around.
I celebrated my 30th birthday at Lock 91 and could not recommend them enough, the party was perfect, the staff could not have been more helpful and lovely and I had the BEST night! I had so many compliments from guests and would 100% celebrate any occasion in the future there. Thank you so much! 😊❤️
