About This Pub

Ah, Kings Corner in Derby – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local haunt, you know? From what I've gathered, the food is a real highlight; it's hearty, well-cooked, and there's something for every taste, whether you're tucking into a classic Sunday roast or trying out their curries and burgers. The staff really go the extra mile to make you feel welcome, and with that lovely beer garden and play area, it's ideal for families or even bringing the dog along for a pint. They've got events like quiz nights to keep things entertaining, and the drinks selection is spot on for a casual catch-up. On the flip side, while recent reviews are all rave, the overall rating hints at some off days, maybe when it's packed and service slows down a touch. Plus, being a bit out in the suburbs, it might not be everyone's first choice if you're after something more central, and the prices can mount up for a full meal out. All in all, it's a welcoming spot that's worth a visit if you're in the area – just keep an eye on the opening times to avoid any surprises!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is absolutely spot on – think hearty British classics, tasty curries, big American burgers, and plenty of veggie options that pack a real flavour punch.
  • It's super family-friendly with a children's play area and outdoor seating, making it a brilliant spot for a relaxed day out with the little ones.
  • The beer garden is a winner, especially on a sunny day; it's spacious and perfect for enjoying drinks and meals al fresco.
  • Service is top-notch – the staff are friendly and attentive, always making you feel right at home, just like popping round to a mate's for a chat.
  • They're dog-friendly with a designated area, and there's a good vibe with events like quiz nights to keep things lively.
  • Variety of drinks on offer, from real ales and lagers to wines and spirits, means there's something for everyone, whether you're after a quick pint or a full evening out.
Cons
  • While recent feedback has been glowing, the overall rating suggests there might be occasional slip-ups, like inconsistent service on busier days, which could leave you waiting a bit longer than you'd like.
  • It's in a suburban spot on the edge of Oakwood, so if you're not local, it might feel a tad out of the way and not as convenient for a spontaneous visit.
  • With a moderate price level, it can add up if you're treating the family or group, so it might not be the best choice if you're watching the pennies.
  • The website mentioned it was currently closed at one point, which could mean timings aren't always spot on, potentially catching you out if you're planning ahead.

Started coming in again recently after being told how much better it is since the new manager started. Can't fault it! good food, friendly staff, they do quiz nights, it's family friendly and much better now you can have food on the play area. Dogs welcome inside too with a designated area. Will be back often!

We honestly had the best time at the kings corner. We were able to add the extras we wanted. Kristie / Kristel was fabulous

Popped in for a impromptu lunch on a Sunday. Big carpark with plenty of outdoor seating and play area for children. Spacious inside with plenty of seating. We were able to get a table with no issues and were served quickly. Food was served quickly and was very tasty. I had the Sunday roast cauliflower tart which I would definitely order again. Prices were reasonable and if I hadn't have been so full, I'd have had desert.
