About This Pub

You know, when I think about Jono's Free House, it really hits the mark as a classic Irish pub that's easy to love. It's got that warm, inviting feel where you can settle in for a pint and chat with mates, and from what I've seen in the reviews, folks are raving about the atmosphere and the beer selection – especially that Guinness, which sounds like a winner. The staff stand out too; they're described as absolute stars, providing top hospitality that makes you want to come back. Then there are the little extras, like the Sunday night bingo and Thursday pub quizzes, which add a fun twist and keep things entertaining without feeling over the top. It's inexpensive, so it's ideal for a casual night out, and being so close to Ilford station makes it super convenient. On the flip side, I have to mention that one review where someone was turned away from a Guinness due to a shortage and it being reserved for regulars – that's a bit of a downer and could put a dampener on things if you're not a familiar face. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good time, with more highs than lows based on the glowing feedback, but it's worth keeping in mind that quirks like stock issues might pop up now and then.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is spot on – it's warm and welcoming, just like a proper Irish pub should be, making it a great spot for a relaxed evening.
  • Friendly staff who go above and beyond; they're known for their phenomenal hospitality and making everyone feel at home.
  • Fun events like Sunday night bingo and Thursday pub quizzes add a real buzz and keep things lively.
  • A good selection of beers, including a cracking pint of Guinness, and it's all at an inexpensive price, so you won't spend a fortune.
  • Handy location just a stone's throw from Ilford train station, perfect for popping in after a journey.
Cons
  • Occasionally, they might run short on popular drinks like Guinness and only serve them to regulars, which could leave you disappointed if you're just visiting.
  • With only a handful of recent reviews analysed, it's hard to get the full picture, but that one negative experience stands out as a potential hiccup.

It looked like a friendly pub and I had 20 minutes to kill, so I thought I grab bbc a quick pint of Guinness but I was told, owing to a shortage Guinness was only being served to regulars. I did say ‘I’m sure one pint won’t leave you short’ but unfortunately I was sent allowed one !

Love this old school pub a few yards from Ilford train station. Really nice inside, excellent staff, a good pint of Guinness and a lovely atmosphere. Can't ask for much more from a pub
