About This Pub

Ah, the John Gilbert – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in the heart of Worsley's picturesque village. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff really go the extra mile to make sure you're looked after, with friendly chats and quick service that turns a simple dinner into a memorable night out. The food's a highlight too; think hearty burgers, tasty fish and chips, and that Sunday roast everyone's raving about – it's all about comforting, well-prepared meals that hit the spot without any fuss. It's dead family-friendly, with options for kids and even space for private dos, plus perks like a beer garden for sunny days and easy parking. On the flip side, there are a couple of things that might not be perfect for everyone, like the odd missing item on the menu or times when the experience isn't quite as seamless, but overall, it's got that reliable 4.1 rating that suggests more hits than misses. If you're popping in, I'd say go for one of their deals or specials to get the best of it – it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening, and you'll likely leave with a smile, ready to recommend it to your mates.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in – it's like chatting with old mates behind the bar.
  • The food is spot on, with delicious options like stacked burgers, crispy fish and chips, and a standout Sunday roast that keeps everyone coming back for more.
  • It's a brilliant spot for families or special occasions, with a welcoming atmosphere, dog-friendly vibes, and even private rooms for events like christenings.
  • Set in a lovely picturesque village, complete with a beer garden and handy facilities like WiFi and parking, it's perfect for a relaxed day out or evening unwind.
  • They've got some great deals, like lunch specials and seasonal twists on classics, which add a fun element to your visit without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • There might be a few small niggles, like the occasional lack of decaf coffee, which could disappoint if you're after a caffeine-free option.
  • While the overall rating is solid, some visits might not hit the mark every time, as not every review is glowing – it's worth checking for consistency.
  • Portions can be generous, meaning things might disappear quickly, but that could leave you wanting a bit more variety in certain dishes.
  • Opening hours are fairly standard, but if you're hoping for late-night options on weekdays, it closes a tad early compared to busier spots.

Me and my partner went to the John Gilbert to grab some dinner and I couldn’t recommend it enough. We got served by a guy called Steve and the service he gave was amazing he was friendly and made sure that everything was okay. I will defo be telling my friends and family about this place.

Just wanted to leave a review for others as I haven't seen many and it's a shame. I have hired a private room for christening. From the beginning team was super professional accomodation lots of changes and answering questions patiently. On the day we had access to the room before where we could decorate it as we wish. Food was really good with lots of choices for everyone and it came out promptly one requested. All the above at a very good value! Highly recommended for private room hire.

It's really bad as my plate all empty after 10 minutes, I don't need to tell how's the food I guess. 5 stars for Sunday Roast.

Gorgeous Small Plates agree portions. We had 5 … and all were delicious. Even asked for a doggy bag for the halloumi and sausages and staff were happy to accommodate. Service with a smile. 4 stars on food only because no decaf coffee (which was unusual for JG.) 👏
