About This Pub

Ah, Iron Horse, what a gem of a pub tucked away on Emerson Way in Newton Aycliffe. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got that classic local feel where you're greeted with a smile and a warm welcome, making it easy to settle in for the evening. The drinks are spot on for value, so you won't break the bank just for a round or two, which is always a win in my book. It's brilliant for footie fans too – pop in for a match, and you'll find the screens fired up and the energy high, especially when England's playing. Plus, with karaoke in the lounge and a jukebox ready to go, there's always something to keep the fun rolling, whether you're up for a singalong or just enjoying the atmosphere. On the flip side, though, it does get packed to the rafters on match days, and the bar can turn into a right noisy hubbub, which might put off anyone after a peaceful chat. And without a website or much online buzz, it's a bit of a hidden spot that you might stumble upon rather than plan for. All in all, if you're after a genuine, down-to-earth pub experience with mates, Iron Horse ticks a lot of boxes – just keep an eye on the crowd if you're not in the mood for a lively scrum.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The drinks are reasonably priced, making it a great spot for a budget-friendly night out.
  • It's got a really friendly and welcoming atmosphere, where everyone seems to know each other – perfect for chatting and making new mates.
  • Ideal for catching live sports like football matches, with TVs on hand and a lively buzz on big game days.
  • Plenty of entertainment options, such as karaoke in the lounge and a jukebox, so you can sing along or pick your own tunes.
  • Divided into separate rooms like the bar and lounge, giving you choices depending on whether you fancy a quiet corner or a more energetic vibe.
Cons
  • It can get incredibly busy and noisy, especially during Newcastle or England matches, which might not suit everyone looking for a relaxed pint.
  • No online presence or website means it's a bit tricky to check details like the menu or events before you head over.
  • The place is unclaimed on Google, so updates might not be as reliable, and you could miss out on the latest goings-on.

This is a very busy pub, especially on Newcastle or England match days. It's divided into two rooms, the bar and the lounge. On this Saturday there was karaoke on in the lounge and there didn't appear to be many people in there. The bar on the other hand was packed and very noisy with the various groups trying to hold conversations. Service at the bar was still fast and efficient, with a good pint being served up. You have darts and pool on offer and a duke box. Food is available from an outside catering cabin, when open.

Was there to watch the champions league! The staff was great, we had so much fun! They also have a juke-box! So if you want to listen to your own tunes, this is the place to be.

Found it because we wanted to watch a Premier league match, which they had on their live TV. It was not very busy but the friendliness with which everybody receives you is fantastic, a proper local pub where everybody wants to know who you are and where you are from. We ended up staying until closing time, drinks are very reasonably priced especially by European standards. If you do end up in the area its a must visit
