About This Pub

Ah, How Do You Do in North Shields – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper gem when you're out for a pint or a bite. From what I've gathered from folks who've been, the food is spot on, with a varied menu full of tasty dishes that leave you satisfied without emptying your wallet. The staff are an absolute delight, always up for a laugh and making sure you have a great time, which really adds to the homely feel. Plus, those views of the Tyne are just brilliant for soaking in while you chat over a drink. On the flip side, the bar area might come across as a tad disjointed, like it's trying a few things at once and not quite nailing it, but honestly, it doesn't spoil the overall experience. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're after a relaxed spot for good grub and good company – I'd say give it a go and see for yourself!

I absolutely LOVE this place. The food is 10/10, the decor and atmosphere is beautiful and the staff are lovely! There is one waiter in particular who treats me and my boyfriend like VIP’s! Unfortunately we don’t know his name to give him credit, all we know is he’s Turkish, hilarious and so kind. Shout out to him! I could not recommend this place more.

⸻ 📍 Visit Date: 28/05 – 6:50 PM “How do you do” Quirky windows and eclectic décor gave the venue a unique vibe, but the front entrance/bar area felt a little unsure of its identity, as if it couldn’t quite decide what it wanted to be. The mismatch in theme made it feel slightly disjointed. That said, once inside, the main restaurant absolutely delivers on its quirky, oddball charm. It’s a shame the overflow/dog-friendly section doesn’t carry the same energy. A refresh here to bring it in line with the main space would really elevate the overall experience. On arrival, we headed to the bar and waited to be served. A waitress passed by and acknowledged us, letting us know she’d be right back—then returned shortly after to greet us, which was appreciated. We asked if the venue was dog-friendly—yes, but only in the front section. The food menu offers classic pub favourites, pizza, and even pasta dishes you don’t often see outside of a traditional Italian restaurant, which was a nice touch for those after something a bit different. Our mains were freshly prepared, generously portioned, and presented to a good standard. A big shoutout to Jamie, the waitress who welcomed and served us—friendly, polite, fantastic with our dog 🐕, and genuinely lovely throughout. We didn’t try dessert, but options were priced around £5.50. Toilets were clean and nicely tiled, with quirky, cheeky signs that added to the fun character of the place. However, the male toilet had no toilet paper at all during our visit. ⸻ Overall: This is clearly a well-renovated venue with thoughtful touches in the design and menu. It boasts a lovely view over Tynemouth Bay and feels like it’s still finding its full identity. The main dining area is strong, but the front bar leans more towards a local’s pub feel, likely due to the regulars it attracts. That’s not necessarily a negative—just worth noting depending on the atmosphere you’re after. There’s a lot to like here, and with a few tweaks in consistency, it could really shine across the whole venue.

Great find, the prices here are really reasonable. Other similar venues take the Mick with the prices of cocktails and meals etc... this venue doesn't The staff are engaging and friendly. The menu is varied and looks amazing.
