About This Pub

Ah, the Holly Bush – it's one of those pubs that just gets the British experience right, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews and their website, it's a proper little spot in Wrexham where you can tuck into some cracking meals, like those massive portions of traditional fare that have folks raving, and at prices that won't break the bank. The staff sound like a bunch of legends, always up for a chat and making sure you're looked after, which really adds to the homely vibe. Plus, being dog-friendly is a massive plus if you're like me and hate leaving the pup at home. On the flip side, though, it's not without its quirks – access might be a bit of a faff if the main door's out of action, and it's got that village pub charm that could do with a spruce-up to elevate it further. Still, with a solid 4.3 rating from heaps of happy visitors, it's clear this place knows how to deliver a good time, so I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area, just maybe plan ahead to dodge any closures.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is absolutely spot on – think hearty British classics with generous portions that leave you feeling well satisfied, like that liver and bacon dish that's cooked to perfection.
  • The staff are a delight, always pleasant and accommodating, making every visit feel like catching up with old mates.
  • It's wonderfully dog-friendly, so you can pop in with your furry companion for a drink and a bite without any fuss.
  • Great value for money with deals like three courses for £24, making it an affordable spot for a proper meal out.
  • The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for family gatherings or a relaxed mid-week catch-up.
Cons
  • Access can be a tad inconvenient at times, like having to go around the side if the front entrance is shut, which might not be ideal if you're on foot.
  • It's a straightforward village pub that could benefit from a few updates to really shine as a hidden gem, as some folks have mentioned.
  • Being currently closed might catch you out, so it's worth checking ahead to avoid any disappointment.

An excellent lunchtime meal and lots of it. We had the liver, bacon, onion, mashed potato and mixed vegetables with lashings of gravy. Everything was cooked beautifully . Sadly no room for a pudding, but maybe next time.......? Couldn't fault the staff either, very pleasant and accommodating . Will definitely be returning.

Called into this old pub and had an excellent meal in the dining area. The front porch is closed and you have to go around the side past some pallets if you are on foot. Good wheelchair access at the back door to the car park. British food done in the best way. I had the salt and pepper shredded chicken starter as a main, nom nom nom. This traditional pub is located in the centre of the village under the railway bridge in the middle of the road fork. Recommended stop off point. Nice friendly atmosphere.

Little village pub, with simple, yet does the job food. With a some simple refinements/upsates it'd be a real hidden gem. Great chips though 👌🏼

Went for a family catch-up with a party of 7. I wasn’t expecting great things as I’ve been to plenty of UK pubs for food and it’s usually disappointing, or very pricey if good. I was proved completely wrong here! All of our mains were £9-£14, huge portions, great quality of food and delicious. My curry was properly spicy with great flavours. I couldn’t finish all of the rice, chips and naan! Service was a bit slow but it was busy on a Monday night. Only one real ale on draught but it was decent. Big car park. The toilets are quite tired and need updating, but functioned absolutely fine.
