About This Pub
Ah, Hemingways – it's one of those places in Wimbledon that you hear about and think, 'Right, that sounds like a proper treat for a night out.' Nestled in the village, it's been around since 2010 as a local independent spot, dishing out award-winning cocktails that could make any cocktail enthusiast's heart sing. Imagine sinking into those cosy sofas with a beautifully crafted Espresso Martini or one of their signature numbers, paired with some homemade pizzas or antipasti – it's got that relaxed, community vibe that's just lovely for catching up with mates or celebrating a special occasion. They're even dog-friendly, which is brilliant if you're popping in with your four-legged friend. But, and I say this as a mate giving you the straight talk, it's not all smooth sailing. From what I've gathered from a few chats, the service can be a bit inconsistent; some visits are met with warm, attentive staff, while others leave you scratching your head over rude encounters or drinks that don't quite measure up. Plus, with prices on the higher end, it might not be the go-to for an everyday pint – more for when you're in the mood to splash out. Overall, if you're up for giving it a go, I'd say it's worth a visit for the cocktails alone, but keep an eye out for those off days to ensure your experience lives up to the hype.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The cocktails are absolutely spot on – they've won awards for being the best in South-West London, and from what I've heard, classics like the Old Fashioned or their own creations really hit the mark.
-
It's a cosy, welcoming spot in the heart of Wimbledon Village with lovely decor, comfy sofas, and outdoor seating that's perfect for enjoying a sunny afternoon or a lively evening.
-
They've got a great vibe for all sorts of occasions, from bottomless brunches and parties to wine tastings, and they're super dog-friendly, which is always a plus if you're out with your furry mate.
-
The food options sound delightful, with homemade pizzas and antipasti that pair brilliantly with the drinks, making it a solid choice for a relaxed meal and tipple.
Cons
-
Service can be hit or miss; some folks have had rather off-putting experiences with staff being abrupt or unhelpful, which puts a bit of a dampener on things.
-
A few recent visits have left people disappointed with unbalanced drinks or even dirty glasses, which isn't what you'd expect from a place that's meant to shine in the cocktail department.
-
It's on the pricey side, so if you're after a budget-friendly night out, you might find it a tad steep for what you get.
-
The atmosphere might not always live up to the hype, especially if you're hoping for consistently upbeat vibes, as a couple of accounts mention it falling short on occasion.

One of the worst bar experiences I have ever had. You would have thought somewhere called Hemingway's would be able to make a good daiquiri, but the drinks were completely unbalanced.
We ordered two drinks for two people. When four turned up we politely told them we only ordered two. The water demanded that we had actually ordered four, after some discussion they removed the two additional drinks. When the bill came the two additional drinks were included. Again we were told that we had ordered them and so should pay, even though we didn't order or drink them! We eventually managed to pay for the drinks we had, but as we were leaving we were asked why we had ordered another two drinks, which we obviously hadn't ordered! The barmen then began to complain about each other and how bad they each are at their jobs, very unprofessional! The two male barmen were rude throughout and we won't be returning. I would suggest anyone thinking of coming here goes to one of the pubs in the village instead where you will get better drinks and much better service.
As locals to the area, we visited Hemingways on a warm spring evening, looking forward to a casual drink outside. From the start, the service was poor — my partner was spoken to aggressively while ordering. Things went downhill when one of our drinks arrived in a visibly dirty glass (grease, fingerprints, residue). After politely asking for a clean one, the same glass was returned. When my partner queried it at the bar, she was met with sarcasm, including a staff member asking whether she'd like to "choose a glass herself." A supposed owner later dismissed the issue entirely on our way out, refusing to take any accountability and doubting 'our version of events'.
We walked just five minutes down the road to another venue and experienced the complete opposite: warm, friendly service, clean glassware, and great value for money. Hemingways charges premium prices, but delivers none of the basics — cleanliness, courtesy, or professionalism. We won’t be returning.
A lovely afternoon bottomless brunch had here to celebrate my mum's birthday. The staffing team were lovely and welcoming and the cocktails were visually stunning and tasty. Thank you Raul for the special flaming rum punch! A wonderful afternoon spent in Wimbledon. Will be back.
They do 4-7pm happy hour with nice food to go along with the cocktails. Liked the decor with cosy sofas and cushions as well as tables outside to enjoy the sun. The hairy guy makes really nice cocktails as he says, and very polite. Wish the glasses were a little bigger.
A wonderful wine bar that offers delicious pizzas and insane cocktails.
Love the great upbeat vibes. The outdoor seating is a positive pleasure. One of the best places to chill out in the village
