About This Pub
Ah, the Half Moon – it's one of those timeless pubs in Putney that's been a staple for decades, right by the Thames, and it's got this brilliant mix of a classic boozer and a buzzing music venue. I love how it's steeped in history, hosting legendary gigs since the 60s, and the live shows every night really bring the energy; you could be catching a tribute band or just soaking up the atmosphere, and it's all so effortlessly fun. The staff are an absolute delight, always cheerful and on hand to make your visit memorable, and there's something special about settling in with a perfectly poured pint by that real fire on a winter's night. The food starts strong with those delicious starters, but honestly, it's a bit of a mixed bag – some dishes are generous and tasty, while others fall flat with bland flavours or overcooked bits, which is a shame when you're looking forward to a proper meal. And while the place has that welcoming feel, service can be slow on occasion, leaving you twiddling your thumbs when you'd rather be enjoying the moment. All in all, it's a solid choice for a night out with mates, especially if music's your thing, but I'd say go in with realistic expectations and maybe skip the full meal if you're in a rush – still, the good times usually outweigh the niggles.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The live music scene is absolutely brilliant – it's got that iconic vibe with gigs every night, making it a must-visit for music lovers.
-
Staff are super friendly and welcoming, always up for a chat and making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
The atmosphere is cosy and inviting, especially with that real fire adding a warm touch on a chilly evening.
-
Drinks are spot on, like expertly poured pints of Guinness that hit the spot every time.
-
Some of the food is spot on too, with tasty starters and wholesome portions that leave you satisfied.
Cons
-
Food quality can be a bit hit or miss; mains like burgers or steak sometimes lack flavour or end up chewy, which is disappointing after a great start.
-
Service can drag on at times, with waits of over an hour for food even when it's not too busy, which puts a damper on the experience.
-
It gets pretty packed, especially during events, so you might have to queue or struggle for a good spot without planning ahead.

Really amazing starters, so tasty and simply delicious. The mains (chicken burger and beef burger) were a bit of a let down, not so much flavour or seasoning. However, the best part of the night was the Guinness, expertly poured and super tasty. Service was fantastic. Overall a really good pub and brilliant for fans of music of any genre.
Came to this iconic venue back in December for the Led Zeppelin tribute gig. I was very excited and left super happy. Friendly yet professional team, lovely food and great atmosphere. Definitely coming back. Cheers guys 👌
I went there for a work Christmas lunch. The pub was empty. Just us there, nice atmosphere, staff friendly and great toilets. however, we waited 1h 20min to be served and the service in general was very slow. My colleagues said their food was good, but my steak was chewy, and the greens were burnt.
Overall, it was an ok experience, not great and not horrible.
Not sure if I would return.
First visit, great bar service, served by various staff and all were lovely and very welcoming. The music venue, it’s very relaxed. It’s a standing venue but you can reserve benches on raised platforms so you can see the band. Great option if you don’t or can’t stand. It’s a very casual venue. There is a bar in the music area. great value for money.
