About This Pub
You know, when I think about the Griffin Hotel, it's got this lovely old-school vibe that just draws you in – imagine sinking into one of those cosy rooms with its historic touches, enjoying a pint of their excellent Joseph Holt bitter or trying out one of the gin and rum cocktails. The specials like Fizz Friday make it feel like great value, and if you're into sports, the live action on the TVs really gets the place buzzing. Plus, it's ace for dog lovers, so you can bring your furry companion along for the ride. On the downside, I've heard from a few mates that the quiet spot's been disrupted by a pool table, making it harder to have a relaxed natter, and there was that unfortunate run-in with a dog that left someone a bit shaken. All in all, it's a solid choice for a traditional pint and a catch-up, but it might not suit everyone if you're after something more modern or completely hassle-free.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
It's got that classic Victorian charm with stunning features like a magnificent mahogany bar and marble fireplaces, making you feel like you're stepping back in time.
-
The beer selection is spot on, especially the Joseph Holt ales and lagers, which are well-priced and a real treat for any beer enthusiast.
-
There's a brilliant beer garden that's a proper sun-trap, perfect for enjoying a pint outdoors on a nice day.
-
It's wonderfully dog-friendly, so you can pop in with your four-legged mate without any fuss.
-
The atmosphere is buzzing for live sports, with Sky and BT on the TVs, making it a great spot for catching the match with friends.
Cons
-
One of the quieter rooms now has a pool table right in the middle, which can make it tricky to have a proper chat over a few beers.
-
There have been a couple of dodgy incidents with dogs, like one where a pooch got a bit too feisty, which might put some folks off.
-
It hasn't changed much over the years, so while that's charming for some, it might feel a tad outdated or lacking in fresh vibes for others.

Stopped going after many years since the only quiet room (no tv) has a pool table slapped in the middle. Nowhere to sit and chat over a few beers.👎🏻👎🏻

Been in this pub a couple of times and i will probably not be going in again as a dog decided to try and bite my ancle but got hold of my pants instead. I only popped in to enquire about something which was advertised. Nice pub but as for the dog...
My first visit here was back in the 1970's and little has changed. A fantastic multi room traditional pub. Always liked coming here. A Joseph Holt's pub selling their excellent bitter ( one of my all time favourite beers ) or mild. I remember telling a puzzle story about crossing a river in a small row boat with a chicken, some grain and a fox. Sadly I knocked over my pint.."you didn't need to make a river..we could imagine it!" Large car park to the side. Ic says he loves it. Large wedding party in full swing on this visit.
Very traditional pub. Went to see the 'artwork' and enjoyed a couple of pints. If your looking for the 'banksy style work' it's on the side of the pub alongside a adjoining road
By far still one of the best (used to be local) pubs. Very friendly and relaxing atmosphere.
