About This Pub

So, if you're looking for a proper country pub experience in Cheadle, Ashlea is definitely one to check out – it's got that homely 19th-century inn feel, right on the edge of a lovely park, making it ideal for a casual afternoon or evening with friends. I have to say, the staff really stand out; they're so welcoming and efficient, turning what could be a simple meal into something special, whether you're in a big group or just popping in for a drink. The food menu is packed with appealing options, from hearty pub favourites to fresh seasonal dishes, and it's clear a lot of folks rave about it based on the positive vibes from recent visits. On the downside, though, prices can feel a bit on the high side, which might put some off and lead to quieter times that don't quite capture that lively pub energy. Plus, there are moments when the food doesn't quite hit the mark, like with certain sides that could use a bit more care. All in all, it's a solid spot with more highs than lows, and I'd recommend giving it a go for a relaxed night out – just keep those expectations balanced, and you're in for a treat.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant, always going the extra mile to make you feel welcome and ensure everything runs smoothly.
  • The food is generally spot on, with delicious pub classics and seasonal specials that really hit the spot, like that Korean BBQ chicken or the mushroom wellington.
  • It's got a lovely cosy atmosphere, especially in the winter with the fire and festive decorations, making it perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates.
  • Great for groups or special occasions, as they can section off areas and provide attentive service that makes the night memorable.
Cons
  • Some dishes can be a bit inconsistent, like those rock-solid roast potatoes that didn't quite live up to expectations.
  • Prices feel a tad steep at times, which might explain why the place can be quieter than you'd hope, potentially dampening the vibe.
  • There have been occasional hiccups with things like tech issues, which can throw a spanner in the works even if the team handles it well.

This pub is always great, the atmosphere wise, especially over Christmas time. Sometimes I come over specifically for the chance to enjoy the fire, beautiful decorations, a nice drink-- it's very festive and lovely. However, this year, the pub was practically empty, sadly. Must be due to the prices, I suspect. I'd still recommend it but I will not visit it as often as I do The didsbury pub.

Pub was clean and had nice seating outside in the sun, staff were friendly and the service was good. , The mushroom wellington, Yorkshires, veg, onion rings, chips and roasted meat were all lovely. However some of the food was not great, the roast potatoes were rock solid (even for me and i like them crispy) and the signature burger was very dry. The veggie burger was not great either which was disappointing.

Genuinely one of the best meals I've had out in years. The staff were wonderfully welcoming and friendly, despite some tech issues with the tills following the power being switched off. Everything was sorted by the time we were finished but the communication was excellent. The Korean BBQ chicken strips were beautiful, and a very generous portion too. The signature burger was full of flavour and tasty meats, the skin on fries were crisp and flavoursome. The salted caramel sundae was one of the best desserts I've ever had. The layers of different fillings just kept coming! Add to that, the bill was reasonable. Would happily come here again.
