About This Pub

Oh, the Grapes Inn in Bolton – it's one of those cosy spots that just hits the mark for a proper pub experience, you know? From the reviews, it sounds like a top place for gathering with friends, whether you're there for a game of pool, soaking up the lively atmosphere, or cheering on the sports. The staff come across as genuinely warm and welcoming, and the drinks won't set you back too much, which is always a plus when you're out for a relaxed evening. It's got that authentic old-world charm that's becoming rarer these days, making it a real gem for anyone who appreciates a traditional boozer. On the flip side, though, there have been grumbles about staffing being a tad thin on busier days, like Christmas, which could mean you're hanging about a bit longer than you'd like for your round. And with no website or clear hours, it's not the easiest place to get sorted for a spontaneous trip. All in all, with a solid 4.3 rating from the crowd, I'd say it's worth giving it a go if you're in the area – just keep those little niggles in mind for a smoother visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely spot-on, making it a brilliant spot for a laugh with mates over a game of pool or just catching up.
  • Friendly staff who really make you feel welcome, like you're part of the crowd from the moment you walk in.
  • Drinks are reasonably priced, so you can enjoy a few pints without worrying about the wallet.
  • It's got that classic, traditional pub feel that's a nod to the good old days, perfect for sports enthusiasts and casual sippers alike.
Cons
  • Staffing can be a bit stretched on busy occasions, like holidays, which might lead to longer waits and a bit of frustration.
  • No operating hours listed anywhere, which makes it tricky to plan a visit without risking a closed door.
  • Not much of an online presence, so it's hard to get the lowdown on things like menus or upcoming events before you head over.

One of the few remaining old world style pubs that has served the local community for decades. Great for sports fans and drinkers alike.

Went in there on Christmas day. Only one staff on serving all the time. I appreciate that staff don't want to work but if the pub is going to open then the management should step up and get behind the bar.
