About This Pub

Ah, Dukes Gate – it's one of those local gems in Little Hulton that really pulls you in with its community spirit and homely feel. From what I've gathered chatting about it, the staff are absolute stars most of the time, always up for a laugh and making sure everyone feels included, which is just what you want on a night out with mates. The beer selection is spot on, especially if you're a fan of Joseph Holt brews, and those special offers like discounted prosecco or bottled ales make it a budget-friendly spot without skimping on quality. Then there's the entertainment – pool tables, dartboards, live acts, and sports on the screens – it's all there to keep things lively, and that heated outdoor area is a real bonus for enjoying a drink al fresco when the sun's out. It's also brilliant for hosting parties in their function room, all free of charge, which adds a nice touch for special occasions. On the flip side, though, it's not without its flaws; I've heard a couple of tales of inconsistent service, like the odd unfriendly encounter or staff not quite on their best behaviour, which can leave you feeling a bit let down. Plus, if you're with family, the 9pm curfew for kids might cut things short, and the later opening times mean it's not the place for an early start. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening, but it'd be even better with a bit more polish to iron out those rough patches – worth giving it a go if you're in the area, just keep your expectations balanced.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of Joseph Holt beers, along with wines and spirits, plus some cracking special offers like Fizz Friday to keep things affordable.
  • It's a proper community spot with loads of entertainment on offer – think pool, darts, live music, discos, karaoke, and even live sports on the TVs, complete with a free hot dog at half-time.
  • The heated outdoor area is a lovely touch for when the weather's playing ball, and they've got a separate space for functions and parties, which is spot on for celebrations.
  • It's child-friendly until 9pm and has disabled access, so it's accessible for everyone looking to pop in for a relaxed pint or gathering.
Cons
  • There have been a few instances where service wasn't up to scratch, like reports of a hostile welcome or staff enjoying a drink while on duty, which can put a dampener on the evening.
  • Families might find it tricky as children have to leave by 9pm, so it's not ideal for late-night outings with the little ones.
  • The opening times start a bit late on weekdays (from 1pm), which means it's not great if you're after a cheeky morning pint or an early meet-up.
  • Some reviews mentioned issues with facilities, like bathroom access, which could be a minor nuisance on busier nights.

We attended a friend's birthday party here staff were nice and friendly. The party was in a separate room which was nice. Anyone with children had to be out by 9pm

Walked into this pub with my boyfriend, on our way home from work, we came in to use the bathroom as I could not wait any longer (I’m a pregnant lady). We got a hostile welcoming and a staff member drinking alcohol whilst multiple customers were still in having a drink, we walked round to the toilets where a male staff member appeared and was rude, the other 2 staff members came round as to which the male staff member said “don’t worry I’ve got him” and proceeded to ask the female staff member to see what I was doing which came across as threatening for my partner and very disrespectful to myself, I walked into the toilet as to which it was dark so asked my partner for my phone for the torch so I don’t put myself or my baby in any kinds of danger because of how dark it was as to which the male staff member snapped back with “you don’t need a phone for the toilet”. He then proceeded to wait outside the female toilets which made me feel more uncomfortable then I already felt, I also felt like he intended to interrupt my privacy. He proceeded to have a heated and rude conversation towards my partner. Although we came into that pub yesterday and had a kind welcoming from different staff members and had no issues what so ever. When I came out the bathroom there was an aggressive atmosphere that made me feel very intimidated, nervous, threatened almost. Me personally will never step foot back into that pub and would also not recommend. We feel judged as it is obvious I am pregnant as I am quite for along and it is obvious we are young.

Not been in for years but the new landlady has completely turned it around, it's well run, clean, the pints are better than ever and there's actually entertainment on. If you've not been in definitely try it.
