About This Pub

Ah, Granny Annies Kitchen – it's one of those spots in Belfast that you hear about and think, 'Right, that sounds like a proper laugh.' From what I've gathered chatting with folks who've been, it's got this wonderfully quirky vibe that makes it feel a bit like stepping into your nan's house, but with a twist of excitement. The food's a highlight; that seafood chowder is a winner, and the meals are fresh, big, and come out quick, which is just what you want after a long day. Pair that with the live music and Irish dancers, and you're in for a right good night – it's all so engaging and lifts the spirits no end. The staff are mostly spot on too, attentive and helpful, which adds to the welcoming feel. But, and I have to be straight here, there are some stories floating about discriminatory attitudes from a few team members, and that's a real shame because it can sour the whole experience. Still, with its excellent value and high energy, it's worth considering if you're up for a pint and a bite, just keep an eye out and go in knowing it's not perfect. All in all, it's a solid choice for a casual get-together, as long as you're prepared for the mix of highs and lows.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, with standout dishes like the seafood chowder that's often hailed as the best in Belfast – it's fresh, hearty, and a real treat.
  • Staff are generally warm and attentive, making you feel welcome from the moment you walk in, with quick service and a friendly chat.
  • The atmosphere is brilliant, featuring live music, Irish dancers, and a quirky decor that keeps things lively and entertaining – it's perfect for a fun evening.
  • Great value for money, with deals like two cocktails for £10, and the portions are generous, leaving you satisfied without breaking the bank.
  • It's a huge space that can handle a crowd, creating a buzzing vibe that's ideal for groups looking for a good time in the heart of Belfast.
Cons
  • There have been some upsetting reports of discriminatory behaviour from certain staff members, which really mars the experience and isn't something to overlook.
  • The food can be a bit inconsistent; while some dishes shine, others are just okay and don't quite live up to the hype.
  • With the place often packed, it might feel a tad overwhelming or hard to get a seat, especially during peak times.

Our experience at Granny Annies Kitchen deeply upset us. Upon learning that we are Turkish, the waiter openly displayed a racist attitude by saying, “If I had known, I wouldn’t have served you.” Such behavior goes against the core values of hospitality and human rights. We believe everyone deserves respect, regardless of their background. It’s our collective responsibility not to stay silent in the face of discrimination, but to stand up for a more equal and understanding society. We hope the establishment takes a clear stand for diversity, inclusion, and respect for all.

First time here. Our server Gabriella was very nice. Food and drinks were good. Live music and we were lucky enough to be there when the Irish Dancers were performing. Enjoyed the 2 for £10 cocktails.
