About This Pub

Ah, the Grange in Boreham – it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its cosy, welcoming vibe, especially on a chilly evening when you're after a proper catch-up over a pint or a hearty meal. I've heard from folks who've been that the staff really go the extra mile; servers like Mel and Ellie come across as genuinely friendly and attentive, making sure everything runs smoothly without being over the top. The food's a highlight too – think classic pub grub with seasonal twists, and those Sunday roasts are spot on, with massive Yorkshire puddings that are as fluffy as they are crispy, all at a fair price that won't break the bank. It's conveniently tucked away near the A12, so it's easy to pop in for a relaxed lunch or dinner. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses; a few reviews mention the odd disappointment with things like overcooked chicken or desserts that don't quite match the description, which can put a dampener on the experience. Still, with its community-minded efforts, like supporting wildlife through their ales, it's got that extra heart that makes it worth a visit. Overall, I'd say it's a solid choice for a good night out, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and maybe stick to the crowd-pleasers.

Cons
  • Food quality can be hit or miss; some dishes, like the chicken, might come out overcooked and not quite as expected.

  • It can feel a bit inconsistent overall, so you might have a brilliant visit one time and a less impressive one the next.

The Grange, Chelmsford – Looks the Part, But Food Falls Short The Grange in Chelmsford is a nice-looking pub with a welcoming feel and attentive service, which set good expectations early on. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to the setting. The chicken was overcooked, dry, and tough, and the salad was limp and slightly slimy, suggesting it had been sitting out for too long. While the plate was initially well presented, the quality and taste just weren’t there. Thankfully this was just a work trip, as I wouldn’t be in a rush to return based on the food alone. Mel served us today. Roast dinners and the chicken pie special which was lovely. Only criticism the pistachio tart didn’t taste of white chocolate or have edible flowers on. Nice Sauvignon wine though. Huge Yorkies as always! Always have us coming back.

Fantastic Lunch with Family - Excellent Service from Ellie! We recently visited The Grange Boreham with my wife and father for a lovely lunch, and we were thoroughly impressed! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by Ellie, who immediately made us feel welcome and showed us to our table. The gastro pub itself has a charming, authentic atmosphere, and the ample parking made our visit stress-free. The menu offered a great variety of choices, catering to different tastes. We opted for the Cumberland sausage and mash, the cheese toastie, and the coronation chickpea – all of which were absolutely delicious, tasty, and beautifully presented. The coffee was also excellent! We especially appreciated the warmed cups, which added a nice touch. And the cappuccinos were spot on. What truly made our experience exceptional was the service provided by Ellie. She was incredibly charming, took the time to explain the menu in detail, and thoughtfully checked for any allergies. Her attentiveness and friendly demeanor really enhanced our meal. Overall, we had a fantastic experience at The Grange Boreham and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delightful meal in a welcoming setting. We will definitely be returning! Thank you, Ellie, and The Grange team!

One of my fave places to go for a Sunday roast. The food is always great, friendly and attentive service (thanks Mel for looking after us) and I always want everything on the menu, very good value. The Yorkshire puddings are huge, crispy and fluffy - one of my goals is to actually be able to finish one. We had a lovely lunch before going for a walk in Danbury Country park.
