About This Pub

Ah, chatting about the Gosling Bridge Inn, it's got that cosy, down-to-earth charm that's just right for a casual night out in Carlisle. From what I've gathered, the food's generally a winner – think hearty pub classics like flame-grilled burgers and grills that hit the spot without costing a fortune, and it's spot on for families or if you're popping in with the dog. The staff are dead lovely, always up for a chat, and the vibe is spot-on for watching the big games, whether it's rugby or football, with no intrusive noise letting you enjoy a proper conversation. On the brighter side, it's inexpensive and has handy facilities like outdoor seating and free WiFi. But let's be straight, it's not perfect – a few folks have mentioned some meals falling flat, like the hunters chicken turning up a bit soggy or not quite as advertised, and it can get rammed, so booking ahead is wise if you don't fancy waiting around. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening; you'd probably have a cracking time, especially if you're after good value and a welcoming feel, but keep expectations realistic for the odd slip-up.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Great value for money with affordable meals that won't break the bank
  • Friendly service that makes you feel right at home from the moment you walk in
  • Family and dog-friendly setup, perfect for bringing the little ones or your furry friend along
  • Brilliant for catching live sports with options like Sky Sports and TNT
  • Lovely atmosphere with a relaxed hubbub, no blaring music so you can actually chat
  • Tasty pub grub like burgers and grills, with a good variety to suit different tastes
Cons
  • Some dishes can be a bit hit or miss, like the hunters chicken which might come out soggy or underwhelming
  • It gets pretty busy at times, so you might need to book a table to avoid disappointment
  • Food quality is occasionally just average, rather than consistently outstanding

A great local chain pub that serves a good range of pub food at bargain prices. Popular with quite a lot of pre-booked tables at around 4pm on a Wednesday. Probably wise to book if you want to guarantee a table. Nice outdoor seating area and not much noise from adjacent busy A7 road. Ordered on the app. Food arrived after only a short wait. We both really enjoyed our lasagna and steak pie. Friendly staff. All good. We'll be back. Nice to see you allow dogs.

The staff were lovely. The food was average. Don't get the hunters chicken unless you like it on a bed of soggy onions and a rock hard tomato. I'll read the menu better if we go again?

Due to work, a crew of us have basically moved in here. The food is fantastic ALMOST every single time. The value is incredible. The service is friendly. Highlights? The XL mixed grill, the Ultimate Feast combo, the Jamaican Stew, Garlic mushroom starter, Lamb Kofta flatbreads, Chicken wings, all of the desserts and accompaniments. Issues? Tandoori burger is not as succulent as you'd expect. The ribs don't fall off the bone. The Carolina reaper sauce is like Franks, not screaming hot. And the steaks.... While they are great value, on their own or in a mixed combo, it always seems overdone. I'm not blaming the chef, I reckon it's the sizzler plates, continuing to cook them when they should be resting. But it's a genuinely fantastic, welcoming place. 9/10 easy. Best place I've stayed for work.

Really nice pub/restaurant. Ive been twice this week for a cheesy stack burger and the hunters chicken this evening. Took me a while to figure out why it was so nice....no loud pumping music! Just a nice low hubbub of people chattering away enjoying their partners and friends company. Takes a while to order and get that order but that due to it being busy and deservedly so! The staff are hard working and super nice and the food is well cooked and tasty....as usual, the bottom line - would i come back and would i recommend it....YES definitely, good food, good beer, really nice atmosphere and above all great friendly happy staff.
