About This Pub
Ah, the Coach & Horses in Carlisle – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local hideaway, you know? From what I've gathered from chats with others who've popped in, the staff really go the extra mile to make you feel at home, whether you're tweaking your meal or just having a laugh. The food's a solid bet too, with fresh pub favourites that hit the spot and won't empty your wallet, plus those little surprises like the salted chips that leave you smiling. And let's not forget the beer garden – it's a cracking place to unwind on a sunny day with a well-poured pint. On the downside, some folks reckon the prices are a tad steep for what's on the plate, and that telly in the background can put a damper on the cosy chats. All in all, it's a great shout for a relaxed get-together, especially if you're with the family or the four-legged mate, but it might not wow you if you're after something a bit more polished. Still, I'd say it's worth a visit for that genuine, welcoming vibe.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile and happy to adjust orders to make your visit just right.
-
The food is tasty and reasonably priced, with fresh pub classics and some standout dishes like those unexpectedly brilliant salted chips.
-
They've got a great selection of drinks, including premium brands, and the draught beers are well kept for a proper pint.
-
The beer garden is a beautiful spot, perfect for relaxing in the sunshine with a drink in hand.
-
It's a newly refurbished, family-run spot that's welcoming for families and dogs, creating a warm, community feel.
Cons
-
The food is decent but doesn't always feel worth the £15-20 price tag, as it can fall a bit short of being truly exceptional.
-
The television volume can sometimes disrupt the atmosphere, making it harder to enjoy a good chat over your meal.
-
You might have to wait a little longer for your food since it's all cooked fresh, which isn't ideal if you're in a rush.

Very friendly staff on the phone and in person. Were able to adjust meals and change items. Food very good and reasonably priced for pub food. Very good experience. The chips in particular had an amazing salt rub on them that was unexpected but fantastic.
The food is ok to good. But it's priced £15-20 main meal, which would be ok if it was great food, but it falls a little short of that, which is a shame as it's a nice pub.
I enjoyed my visit to the Coach and Horses. The food was very good and the draught beers were well kept. My only peeve would be having the television volume on, I really feel that it kills any atmosphere.
I just wanted to say thank you for accommodating us all on Saturday evening. Coming in a very large group with a lot of children having nothing booked they made us have a lovely experience and the food was beautiful! Lovely staff lovely place. I wish I lived here as I would love to come all the time! If I’m ever in the area again I would definitely call back for some very good food
This is a great place for some real food, good food, service, and beer, we booked at short notice and were accommodated. This was one of the best pub meals I have had in a long time. It was really great meals all cooked fresh, and I had to wait a bit longer, but it was well worth the wait, and I highly recommend you check it out if you're in the area .
