About This Pub

Ah, Goodbarns Yard – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper local haunt in Boston, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are the real stars; they're chatty, helpful sorts who make you feel right at ease, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or settling in for a full meal. The food menu offers some cracking choices, like those generous portions of grilled chicken or a smashing steak and ale pie, and with deals like 2 for £20, it's brilliant value that won't break the bank. It's especially nice for a laid-back evening out, with a welcoming vibe that's perfect for catching up with mates or even marking an occasion, as one reviewer did for their anniversary. But, and I say this as a fair heads-up, it's not all perfect – there've been times when the grub hasn't quite lived up to expectations, like a chicken that was a tad dry or a steak that looked like it skipped the pan altogether. Still, with an overall rating of 4.5, it's clear the good days far outnumber the bad, so I'd say it's worth giving it a go if you're in the area, just maybe keep your fingers crossed for the kitchen to be on form!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and really make you feel welcome, always ready with a smile and helpful advice on the menu or where to sit.
  • The food is generally spot on – think generous portions, tasty options like grilled chicken and ribs, and great value deals such as the 2 for £20 offer.
  • It's got a warm, inviting atmosphere that's perfect for a casual get-together or even celebrating something special, with good beer on tap to boot.
  • Service is pretty quick, so you won't be left hanging around waiting for your meal, which is a real plus on a busy night.
Cons
  • There have been a few grumbles about the food not always hitting the mark, like some dishes coming out a bit dry or undercooked, which can be disappointing.
  • Based on the reviews, it seems like the odd bad experience can stand out, such as a steak that didn't quite make it to the pan properly, so consistency might be a bit hit or miss.

We were greeted by a lovely barmaid, who advised on where to sit etc...menu had a good choice..with a 2 for £20 offer which we went for..grilled chicken, chips, and peas with a salad garnish, onion rings and mushrooms. Food arrived fairly quick...and it was hot. Chicken was a little dry..but then again chicken breast can be dry if cooked without a sauce. Overall a pleasant experience in a beautiful pub garden by the river...we would recommend.

11/2/25 had 1/2 rack of ribs and once again it was very good, staff were their usual chatty happy selves, superb service, highly recommended. 10/01/2025 Popped in for a drink and meal, had the specials, steak and ale pie and it was superb, once again lovely staff and a highly recommended pub for food and drink. Staff and food are fantastic, one of the best places in the area. Update, did not eat just popped in for a drink and staff still very friendly and chatty, Alison the manager is so nice, friendly and welcoming.

Awful food today, my partner ordered steak I ordered the brunch. As you can clear see from the photo the steak doesn't look as if it's even seen a pan yet was cooked medium (asked for medium rare). Can only assume it had been microwaved 😬. Not so easy to see in the photo was my cremation brunch 1 of 2 sausages was black thru aswell as 1 of 2 bits of bacon. I can honestly say I'd be embarrassed to dish this up at home and wouldn't send this out to a customer. After hearing great reviews from others this was a horrible experience and nobody once asked how are meal was? £38 ish later I won't be returning.

We went to Goodbarns Yard this evening to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary, the service, food and atmosphere was fantastic. The portions sizes were very generous and good value for money.
