About This Pub

Ah, the Golden Fleece – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a warm hug when you step inside, tucked away in Manor Park with lovely views of Wanstead Flats. I've got to say, what really stands out is that enormous beer garden; it's perfect for a sunny afternoon pint or even watching the footie with mates. The food's spot on too – think solid pub grub like those delicious roasts that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank. And the team behind the bar? They're an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly. It's great for families earlier in the day, with a play area and that welcoming feel, but do keep in mind the licensing rules mean no kids after 9 PM, which might cramp plans for a full evening out. On the flip side, it does get bustling, especially during big matches, so you might end up queuing for a table or finding it a tad crowded. Overall, if you're after a straightforward, community-oriented spot that's more about good beer and laughs than fancy frills, this one's a winner – I'd pop in for a visit if you're in the area, you won't regret it!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer garden is absolutely massive and a brilliant spot for soaking up the sun, especially with its views of Wanstead Flats nearby.
  • They serve up some cracking food, like those hearty roasts that hit the spot after a walk in the greenspace.
  • The staff are really top-notch and friendly, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's a fantastic place for catching live sports, with Sky Sports and TNT available, so you won't miss a moment of the action.
  • Dog-friendly vibes mean you can bring your furry friend along, and there's a welcoming family atmosphere during the day.
Cons
  • It can get pretty packed, especially on busy evenings or during big sports events, so you might have to wait for a table.
  • As a traditional pub, it's not the spot if you're after something more upscale or gastro-like – it's all about straightforward, no-fuss vibes.
  • There's a rule that kids under 18 aren't allowed after 9 PM due to licensing, which could be a bit of a hassle for families wanting a late outing.

Great find and an uncomplicated pub right by Wanstead Flats. Large beer garden, carpark. Great food and most evenings a few themed events. Top staff too!

Food came after about 15mins, this place gets very busy so cant complain. The food was good. Large beer garden with play area for kids. Really nice family atmosphere. Good for watching sports.

It has a great garden, it’s enormous. This is more of a traditional pub, so don’t go here if you’re after Gastro pub vibes. It has good beer, staff are friendly enough and it’s right next to the Wanstead Flats green space which is handy. A really nice place to have a beer, I’d recommend it, good Guinness too!

Had a great roast here on Easter Sunday. Big roast menu lots of choice and all was v nice. Good selection of beers on tap too. A proper garden + space for dogs inside too. Perfect if you've been walking round the flats during the day

Like a friendly country pub in the city. One of the most well managed pubs in London. Hats off to Nick the manager and the staff. I was having lunch there recently and a 83 yo lady was celebrating her birthday with her friends (her age was on the cake lol) so it’s a pub women can feel very safe in. On weekends there’s an enthusiastic but respectful sports crowd. Lots of dogs! The lunch deal is amazing value. Had steak ciabatta, chips and large wine for £10.99. The Sunday Roast is great too. Huge beer garden. Cannot recommend enough. Just a joy. Cheers! 🍷
