About This Pub

Ah, Garrick's Head in Bath – what a lovely spot it is, tucked away in this grand Georgian building that used to be home to Beau Nash, right next to the Theatre Royal. I've got to say, it's one of those places that just feels welcoming from the moment you walk in, with its traditional British charm and a crowd that's always interesting. The food is a real highlight; we're talking proper pub classics made from scratch with the best local ingredients, like those massive portions of mussels or their famous shortcrust pastry pies – it's all so tasty and good value. And the drinks? Well, they've got an excellent range, from local ales brewed specially for them to a cracking wine list and cocktails that'll sort you out after a long day. Plus, being dog-friendly and having that sunny terrace for outdoor seating makes it even more appealing for a casual get-together. On the flip side, it's not without its quirks – one mate mentioned their full English wasn't quite up to scratch and they were a bit rigid on tweaks, and it does get heaving at times, so booking's a must to avoid disappointment. Overall, though, with that solid 4.1 rating from folks who've been there, it's a place I'd happily recommend for a great night out, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and maybe skip the cash for cards only.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think hearty homemade pub classics with fresh, seasonal ingredients, and massive portions that leave you feeling well satisfied.
  • Friendly staff who make you feel right at home, with top-notch service that's warm and welcoming, just like a good chat with mates.
  • It's in a cracking location next to Bath's Theatre Royal, with lovely outdoor seating where you can soak up the sun and watch the world go by.
  • A fantastic selection of drinks, including local ales, international beers, cocktails, and wines – plus they're dog-friendly, which is always a bonus for us animal lovers.
  • The atmosphere is brilliant, especially in that grand Georgian building, making it a proper traditional British pub that's family-oriented and full of character.
Cons
  • Some dishes might not hit the mark every time, like that full English breakfast which one person found a bit underwhelming and inflexible with changes.
  • It can get pretty busy, so you'll want to book ahead, especially on weekends, or you might end up waiting around.
  • They only take card payments, which is fine for most, but if you're someone who prefers cash, that could be a slight hassle.
  • A couple of reviews mentioned minor letdowns, like the bread plate not quite living up to expectations, so it's not perfect across the board.

What a brilliant find! Superb little restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. The food was delicious, we had the special dish of the day (mussels) and the portions were huge! Service was great, very friendly staff which made for a very welcomed visit.

Enjoyed lunch with home-made soup of the day. (Carrot, squash, pumpkin?). Service was great. Food was yummy. Bread was sourdough. Coffee was of right strength. Toilets were clean and luxury. Sitting Outside. Listening to the live music on the street. 🥰 lovely

Not the greatest full English I’ve had for sur, and I know many places wouldn’t mind replacing one or even more items with something else but apparently they can only take item off my plate, which is just not helping me feeling any better about the whole experience. But I’d give the food 4 stars just for the chargrill flavour!

Great pub. Delicious beer, nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Especially liked the burger this time round. And the bread plate was disappointing. The fries with truffle sauce are good. It was nice to find a free table on a Saturday night after a rugby match. Dog friendly.
