About This Pub

Ah, the Freemasons Arms – it's one of those classic London pubs that really captures that countryside feel right in the heart of Hampstead, and I've got to say, it's a gem for anyone after a proper pint and a hearty meal. From what I've gathered from chats and reviews, the atmosphere is spot on; it's warm, inviting, and just the ticket for catching up with mates over a drink. The food doesn't disappoint either – think mouthwatering burgers, fresh prawns, and those Sunday roasts that hit the spot every time. Plus, with that lovely garden area, it's brilliant for soaking up the sun on a nice day, even if you have to nab a table on the fly. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect; some folks have had to wait ages for their grub, which can be frustrating when you're peckish, and there've been a few grumbles about service not being as seamless as it could be, like chasing down napkins or sorting out billing mix-ups. Still, with an overall solid rating, it's clear this place has plenty going for it, and I'd reckon it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just keep an eye on the time and maybe double-check your bill to avoid any surprises. All in all, it's a solid choice for a casual get-together, balancing those homely charms with a few areas that could use a tweak.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely warm and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you step in.
  • The food is a real highlight – think delicious dishes like burgers, prawns, and Sunday roasts that are packed with flavour and clearly made with care.
  • They've got a lovely outdoor garden area, perfect for enjoying a drink or a meal in the sunshine, even if it's first-come-first-served.
  • It's in a brilliant spot in Hampstead, close to lovely parks and attractions like Hampstead Heath, so it's ideal for a post-walk pint.
  • The staff are generally friendly and attentive, adding to that cosy pub vibe we all love.
Cons
  • Waiting times for food can be a bit of a drag, with some folks reporting waits of up to an hour, which puts a damper on the experience.
  • Service can be inconsistent, like having to ask for basics such as napkins or utensils, especially if you're in the bar area.
  • There have been issues with billing, such as being overcharged for items, which might leave a sour taste.
  • No bookings for outside tables means you might miss out on that garden spot if it's busy.
  • Recent feedback suggests things aren't always running smoothly, with a dip in satisfaction compared to the overall rating.

Nice ambiance, good food. Burger and prawns were delicious. Had to request napkins and utensils individually when our food came, maybe because we sat in the bar area? Typically, that’s would be standard. Overall pretty nice, would return.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this amazing restaurant, and I must say – I was truly impressed. From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel incredibly welcome. The service was not only professional but also warm and attentive throughout the entire evening. Every member of the team went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience. They were friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely cared that everything was to our liking. It’s rare to find a place where the service is just as memorable as the food – and this restaurant absolutely delivered on both. I’ll definitely be coming back, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience.

I have been waiting for my food for at least one hour. When I checked the bill I was charged £7 extra for a “baked gilot camembert” from a three course menu that was marked as “for two to share”. There was another strarter below in the menu “pan fried scallops” that said “£3 supplement”. When I went to talk to the manager , Sean Scott, he told in a very rude manner that I should have checked the bill before paying. (If you don’t pay attention, we will take advantage of you!!) I said the menu was misleading as the extra charge for sharing was not disclosed as it was for the scallops. He said he would not change it, I should have checked the bill before I paid. After talking to him for a few minutes he started talking to other customers as if I wasn’t there. Completely ignoring me and in the end he said if I stayed there he would have to ask me to leave the premises. No worries, I left on my own and I will never come back. I’ve been in this restaurant at least 20 times. Enough said on how much they value their customers. I’m taking this to the Competition and Market authorities. It’s not the money, it’s the principle.

We waited 50 minutes for our food. We saw several people arrive, eat and leave while we were still waiting. My hamburger and chips were average, 3 out 5. My wife ordered fried king prawns and halloumi which were both excellent, 5 out of 5.
