About This Pub

Ah, Founder's Arms, it's one of those pubs that really captures the essence of London life, perched right on the South Bank with those epic views of the Thames that just make everything feel a bit more special. I love how it's got this lively yet chilled-out atmosphere, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or settling in for a full meal with dishes like their hearty British classics – the portions are generous, and the staff are always up for a chat, recommending their favourites to make your visit even better. It's spot on for meeting up with pals, thanks to its handy location near the tube and attractions, but do keep in mind that while the food hits the mark most of the time, it might not wow the taste buds if you're after something truly extraordinary. Still, it's a solid choice for a good time by the river, and I'd say it's worth a visit for the views alone, as long as you plan ahead for busy spots.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The views of the Thames and St Paul's are absolutely stunning, especially on a sunny day – it's one of those spots that makes you feel like you're in the heart of London without the usual hustle.
  • The atmosphere is just right, lively but relaxed, perfect for catching up with mates over a drink or enjoying a proper meal.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers, cocktails, and quintessentially British dishes made with fresh ingredients – think hearty Sunday roasts with massive portions that leave you satisfied.
  • The service is spot on; the staff are friendly and happy to recommend their big sellers like the bacon cheeseburger or fish and chips.
  • It's super convenient, right near Tate Modern and with easy access from stations like Waterloo and Blackfriars, making it a breeze to meet up with friends from all over the city.
Cons
  • Some of the food, like the fish and chips, is decent but not always mind-blowing – you might find better elsewhere if you're a real foodie.
  • The outdoor seating can get pretty packed, so it's worth booking ahead if you want that riverside table, or you might end up waiting.
  • While the portions are generous, a few folks have mentioned that things aren't always spectacular, so expectations might need to be tempered a bit.

The view of the Thames and St Paul’s is unbeatable, especially on a sunny day. The atmosphere is lively but relaxed, perfect for both a casual drink or a meal. Good selection of beers and cocktails. A must-visit if you’re walking along the South Bank!

It was lovely place to chill during sunset with a great ambiance. Serving portion was massive, I had Sunday Roast. Outdoor seating can get busy so best to get a table booked but I did walk in and managed to get a good table with a view.

Gorgeous spot on the river, very close to Tate Modern. For an afternoon meal, we split the fish and chips along with the smoked anchovies appetizer. Both were decent but not spectacular. I have certainly had better fish and chips throughout London and the US, but it was hard to beat the outdoor spot on a nice day. They have a decent list of cask and draft beers.

When hosting visiting guests, it is always a pleasure to bring them to the Founder’s arms, a charming riverside spot that boasts one of the most breathtaking views in the city. Nestled along the riverbank, this establishment offers a serene and picturesque setting, making it one of my favorite corners of the city. The ambiance is sometimes too busy and full of people, but is inviting in other days. Perfectly suited for enjoying a drink or an aperitivo while taking in the stunning panorama. Whether seated indoors or outside, the experience is enhanced by the tranquil flow of the river and the vibrant energy of the surroundings. While the prices are on the higher side, they are understandable given the prime location and the exceptional view. It is a worthwhile indulgence, especially for those special moments when you want to treat yourself or impress your guests. In summary, the place is an ideal destination for anyone looking to unwind in a beautiful setting. Its combination of a serene atmosphere, friendly service, and unparalleled views makes it a must-visit spot, particularly for those seeking a memorable experience by the river.

Had lunch there. I had the bacon cheeseburger and the bacon was thick and well-cooked. My friend had the fish and chips. Both are definitely delicious. We had such friendly table service and were recommended the burger and fish and chips as the big sellers. Also told that everything else was good as well. Such a light and airy pub with a fantastic view across the river to St. Paul’s. And there is outdoor seating as well. Definitely recommend.
