About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about the Flying Squirrel – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a proper British get-together. I love how the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome; they're polite, chatty, and really add to the homely atmosphere, especially after their recent spruce-up. The food's a real highlight too – think hearty Sunday lunches and pub favourites that taste spot on, and with deals like 30% off mains, it's easy on the wallet as well. They've got this great garden area for soaking up the sun with a drink in hand, and it's fantastic for families with the separate dining and sports zones, so you can enjoy a more relaxed meal or get lively with the games. Plus, being dog-friendly in the bar means you don't have to leave your pooch at home. But, to be fair, it's not all perfect – the website's a bit off about dogs being allowed everywhere, when it's just the bar, which might frustrate a few folks. And while they've sorted out any old issues with food consistency, the lack of clear signs inside could leave you scratching your head at first. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a pint and a chat; I'd say pop in and see for yourself – you might just find it becomes your new local haunt.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
The food is spot on – from pub classics to Sunday roasts, it's tasty and has improved a lot after their recent refurb.
-
They've done a lovely job with the refurbishment; it's modern, homely, and they've got separate areas for family dining and sports, which is great for different vibes.
-
It's dog-friendly in the bar area, so you can bring your furry mate along for a pint and a bite.
-
There's a nice pub garden where you can enjoy drinks and meals outdoors, perfect for sunny days or casual get-togethers.
-
They host family-friendly events and have offers like 30% off mains, which adds a fun touch to visiting.
Cons
-
The website says dogs can go anywhere, but that's not quite right – they're only allowed in the bar area, which can be a bit misleading.
-
Signage in the foyer could be better; it's easy to get a tad confused about where to head for the bar or dining.
-
While the food's improved, there were some past grumbles about it not always matching the menu, though that seems sorted now.

Loved it here, staff really polite and friendly. Food amazing. Dog friendly the only reason I have knocked a star off is the website states dogs can go anywhere in the whole pub. But that's not true could only go in the bar area. Which was fine as we ended up outside but it's really frustrating when the website says one thing and staff say another. Won't stop us coming back as the food was delicious
Absolutely lovely visit to the recently refurbished Flying Squirrel to celebrate my late mum's heavenly birthday. Her last birthday with us was also spent here so it holds many special memories for us.
The new decor is beautiful and on trend while still homely.
The lovely and patient bar man Jamie served our family and was nothing but reassuring and helpful when my elderly dad was having difficulty with his debit cards, I ordered a drink he hadn't made before, my 7 year old nephew had a massive meltdown and my sister kept changing his food order...not to mention all paying separately on the same order. I wouldn't have had his patience that's for sure!!!
Food was lovely as always.
Thanks for a great evening and hope to see you all again soon.
The refurbishment looks lovely, could do with signage in the foyer to point out which way to the bar or the dining area.
Food has improved massively, it had got very poor over the years and on previous visits you were lucky if you got what you chose on the menu ! Through this we went elsewhere on many occasions but The Squirrel has redeemed itself in my eyes. Polite and welcoming staff too
Really enjoyed our visit
A nice and friendly well run pub.
Just had a recent re-fit and looks really nice
Sports bar on entry and family dining area to the right. A very clean and welcoming atmosphere. Sunday roast meals looked really well presented and service was of a high standard. As always exceptional service from Danielle today....a lovely young lady with a warm and friendly manner with a welcoming smile and greeting. Very helpful and customer orientated. Well done...and thank you.
A pleasant afternoon.
I visit here often with my family and always have a lovely visit! The staff are always so welcoming and friendly. The pubs new look is really nice, I like how they have seperated a family restaurant side which is more relaxed and then there's a sports area with a more vibrant atmosphere. On my recent visit I ordered the cowboy burger which was really good! There is a good selection available on the menu with vegetarian and vegan options also available. I would definitely recommend this place and look forward to returning again soon.
