About This Pub

Oh, mate, let me tell you about Ego at The Old Ashfield – it's one of those places that just gets it right most of the time. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is where they really shine; we're talking fresh, tasty Mediterranean dishes that make you feel like you've nipped off to the continent for the evening. The staff are an absolute delight, always popping over to check if you're alright and making sure your glass isn't empty for long – it's that kind of personal touch that turns a simple meal into a proper treat. It's got this lovely, welcoming atmosphere too, like walking into a mate's front room but with better grub, so it's brilliant for a catch-up or even a birthday bash. On the flip side, it's not flawless; you might find yourself waiting a bit longer for your order on busier nights, and occasionally something small like a side dish not being piping hot could niggle you. Still, overall, it's a gem in Sutton-in-Ashfield that's worth a visit if you're after good food without the faff, and I'd say it's one to keep in your back pocket for when you fancy a relaxed evening out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely top-notch, with fresh, flavourful dishes that really hit the spot – think delicious Mediterranean options that leave you wanting more.
  • Service is spot on; the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, going out of their way to make you feel welcome and ensuring everything runs smoothly.
  • It's a beautiful spot that feels more like a cosy restaurant than a typical pub, perfect for catching up with mates or celebrating special occasions.
  • Generous portions mean you get great value for your money, especially at moderate prices, so you won't leave feeling short-changed.
  • The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it ideal for a relaxed evening out, whether it's a casual meal or something a bit more memorable.
Cons
  • There can be the odd wait for food or drinks, which might put a slight dampener on things if you're in a rush.
  • Sometimes little details like food temperature aren't quite perfect, such as a dish not being as warm as you'd hope, though it's not a deal-breaker.

We stopped off here as we were in the area. We were amazed by the generous selection provided. The service was speedy and very friendly, nothing felt like too much trouble. The food came promptly and tasted even better than it looked, the chefs are clearly talented and take pride in their work. The portion sizes are just right, enough to have a good taste of the food without leaving you feeling overfilled. We are 1000% coming back to try more menu items and we can’t wait. Thankyou so much to the waitress Jessie who looked after us, she did an amazing job x

Second time dining at Ego now and I have to say it's a beautiful place. To dine with friends and the parents. The food is very good quality and has always been delicious. The first time I'll be honest, there was a long wait for food and drinks. But clearly it wasn't bad enough to put us off. The staff are really approachable and friendly. Shout out to Jessi for her service. We have never had trouble parking. The toilets are clean. I think this venue is very reasonably priced for the delicious food you get. My parents can EAT and the Trio Roast fills them. We will absolutely be back for a third reservation.

Had a lovely meal for my son's birthday. The food was amazing as was the service. I would recommend the duo of pork which was delicious. James looked after us for the evening and was very professional and polite and kept checking back to see if all was okay. All in all we had a great evening and left very content with our bellies full.

Went for the Valentines Day special, and it really did the night justice! The first thing that hit me was the setting. It looks like a pub, but feels like a top restaurant when you walk in. The food was stunning. Whilst my wife felt the garlic mushrooms could’ve been warmer (I said it’s better than burning your mouth off), both of us felt the pork and chicken for the main were so tender and melted in the mouth. The mini selections of desserts complimented each other perfectly, and I could’ve had a whole meal just on them alone! According to the bill, our server was Chloe and she was fantastic. So welcoming and friendly. All in all, couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate a beautiful night

Absolutely fantastic experience! Chloe one of the members of staff here was incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming – they truly go above and beyond to make you feel at home. The food was simply outstanding! Every dish was fresh, flavourful, and authentic. Chloe also recommended us her personal favourites which certainly did not disappoint!! Highly recommend this place if you’re craving great Mediterranean food with exceptional service. They also offer an amazing 3 courses for 2 people for just £40!! Will certainly be back again!
