About This Pub

Ah, the Duke of Wellington – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? From what I've gathered chatting about it, the food really steals the show; think tender pies with crispy crusts or spicy Cajun chicken that's moist and full of flavour, all made with care and served up piping hot. The staff are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which adds to that homely feel. It's brilliant for sports fans too, with all the latest matches on the telly and a lively buzz that gets everyone involved. Plus, their offers make it easy on the wallet, so you can enjoy a proper meal without fuss. On the flip side, if you're after something on the spur of the moment, like that tasty seafood platter, you'll need to plan ahead with a deposit, which might not suit everyone's style. And let's be honest, it does get heaving during big games, so you might end up queuing or squeezing in, and the hours can be a bit unclear at times, which is a minor niggle. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed night out – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as the good bits far outweigh the little drawbacks.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant – fresh, homemade dishes like pies and Cajun chicken that hit the spot every time.
  • Staff are so friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's a top spot for watching sports, with great coverage on Sky and TNT, and a buzzing atmosphere when the games are on.
  • Offers fantastic value for money, with meals that leave you full and satisfied without breaking the bank.
  • The pub has a clean, lovely decor and a warm, cosy vibe that's perfect for catching up with mates.
Cons
  • Some specials, like the seafood platter, require 72 hours' notice and a deposit, which might put a dampener on spontaneous visits.
  • It can get pretty busy during match days or events, so you might have to wait for a table or deal with a bit of a crowd.
  • The operating hours seem a tad inconsistent in places, which could confuse you if you're planning a quick stop after work.

Having heard that the previous chef had returned we and a couple of was popped in on Tuesday. The food was excellent and as we were hungry we all ordered large portions, each of us had a different meal and we all agreed that we would certainly come back. When we came to pay the bill we discovered that there was a special deal on Mondays and Tuesdays so we only paid £9.99 each.

We only moved to the area in Sept 2024 and have tried a good few pubs for a decent quality value for money meal. Called in this one (06/06/2025) and it's gone to the top of our list, 3 of us had different meals, and none of us had any complaints about any of part of it and it was definitely good value for money. We will definitely be coming back to this great find. Thanks to all staff at the time, around 2pm, very friendly and couldn't do enough to please. See you all again soon.

Had the sharing seafood platter and what can I say ....... absolutely beautiful. Compliments to the chef. Everything was cooked to perfection. Service was also brilliant and the staff were very friendly. Will definitely be going back. You do need to give 72hrs notice and pay a £20 deposit.

Been for a meal tonight, had pie and chips and Cajun chicken with chips. The pie crust was nice and crispy with tender meat inside, the chicken was very moist and a nice amount of spice. The chips were homemade and very tasty. Very friendly staff so would definitely recommend. Thank you

Wow what a fantastic experience we has having our dinner at the Duke of Wellington. All the members of staff we spoke to where absolutely lovely, the pub was clean and lovely decoration throughout. Most importantly the food was absolutely spectacular. It was that good I asked for a doggy bag to take home what I couldn't manage and have enjoyed it for lunch today. It's probably the first time in my adult life I haven't had to add salt or other condiment as it was utterly perfect. Aiming to leave room for pudding next time! Highly recommend.
