About This Pub
Ah, the Duchess of Kent – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local favourite, tucked away in Islington and easy to pop into after a wander from the station. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks are raving about the food; those Sunday roasts sound like a treat, with generous servings and even solid vegan choices that don't feel like an afterthought. It's brilliant for catching the game too, with screens everywhere and that match-day energy that gets everyone involved, whether it's football or rugby. The outdoor area is a highlight on a sunny day, perfect for sipping on a craft beer or a spritz while the world goes by, and it's super welcoming for dogs, which is great if you're out with your four-legged companion. On the flip side, it can be a bit tricky to locate if you're not in the know, and things might get a tad crowded when the big games are on, so you could end up queuing for a spot. Overall, though, it's got that warm, community feel with friendly faces behind the bar, making it a solid choice for a relaxed evening or a family get-together – I'd say it's worth checking out for a pint and a plate of something tasty, as long as you go in with realistic expectations.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely delicious, with standout roasts and generous portions that leave you feeling satisfied – even the vegan options are top-notch and feel thoughtfully prepared.
-
It's a fantastic spot for watching live sports, with multiple screens and a buzzing atmosphere that makes every match feel like a proper event, especially if you're heading to an Arsenal game.
-
The outdoor terrace is lovely for soaking up the sun with a refreshing spritz or a pint of craft beer, and it's dog-friendly, which is always a winner if you're out with your furry friend.
-
Friendly staff and a welcoming vibe make it feel like a real community hub, perfect for a relaxed catch-up or a family meal.
-
They've got a great selection of drinks, from local brews like Young's Original to summery spritzes, so there's something to suit every taste.
Cons
-
It might be a tad off the main drag, so if you're not familiar with the area, it could take a bit of effort to find, though it's just a short walk from Highbury & Islington station.
-
Some reviews suggest the food is 'decent' rather than mind-blowing, so if you're after something truly innovative, it might not quite hit the mark, though overall it's reliably good.
-
It can get quite busy during big sports events or weekends, which might mean waiting for a table or dealing with a bit of a crowd if you're not keen on that.

Came for father’s day with our family of 4 and all had delicious roast dinners. the vegan roast especially was such a great offering when they can often feel like an afterthought. Every element was delicious and generous portions too! we also shared the hummus starter which was great. staff were friendly and lovely relaxed atmosphere, definitely recommend.
Great neighborhood pub. Lovely outdoor area, nice service and (most importantly) dog approved. Highly recommend if you are in Highbury area.
Nice pub with good service and decent food.
The Duchess of Kent is a welcoming pub, offering a great mix of charm, comfort, and quality. The atmosphere is relaxed yet stylish, with a lovely outdoor seating area — perfect for a sunny afternoon.
I had an excellent Sunday roast! The menu puts a modern twist on British classics too. The drinks selection is top-notch, with local ales, a variety of beers, and a solid wine list.
Friendly staff and a warm vibe make it a great spot for everything from casual drinks to match-day gatherings. A real neighbourhood favourite.
Dined here on a Sunday night. The food was delicious. Our party tried the beef Sunday roast, pork belly Sunday roast, and the beef and mushroom pie. They were all spectacular! We had wine and two desserts that we shared. The sticky toffee pudding was excellent. Good atmosphere and friendly staff.
