About This Pub

Ah, The Jolly Sisters – what a lovely little find in the backstreets of London! It's got that timeless boozer feel, with a cozy interior that's just perfect for settling in on a sunny afternoon or a chilly evening. The folks running the place are absolute gems, always greeting you with a smile and making sure everyone feels welcome, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or staying for the footie. If you're an Arsenal fan, it's brilliant for match days, as the atmosphere really gets going – I can imagine the cheers when they pull off a win! Plus, it's great that they cater to dog owners, giving your pup a bowl of water without a fuss. On the flip side, do keep an eye on your orders if you're with a big group, as they might nudge you to spend a bit more to keep things ticking over – but that's just how some places operate, isn't it? All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone after a genuine, unpretentious pub experience, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a go for a proper night of laughs and good times.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • The staff and locals are incredibly friendly and down-to-earth, always up for a chat and some good bants.
  • It's a fantastic spot for football fans, especially Arsenal supporters, with a lively vibe during games.
  • They're super dog-friendly, offering water bowls and a warm welcome for your furry friends.
  • It captures that authentic oldschool pub charm, like a proper North London boozer that's becoming rare these days.
  • Drinks are reasonably priced, with pints around £5.30, making it an affordable choice for a night out.
Cons
  • There might be a bit of pressure to order more if you're in a larger group, as one visit mentioned getting a gentle telling-off for not keeping up with the tab.

COYG!! An Arsenal bar. Saw Arsenal win 2-1 against Real Madrid. We did get yelled at for not ordering enough but given our group size I guess that’s reasonable lol? 5 stars for a good atmosphere during the game

We came here after looking for a pub with some space outside in the sun. Was the first time we came here, but would definitely recommend. Very friendly staff and locals. We came with our dog and they gave a bowl of water for the dog too. We'll definitely come back!

🚇Caledonian Road 🍺 £5.30 Cruzcampo A Proper Oldschool North London Boozer. The Jolly Sisters is located in the backstreets of Barnsbury just a stones throw away from Pentonville Prison. The nearest Tube is Caledonian Road, it’s a five minute walk to get here. This pub was originally built in 1850 and started life as The New Queen's Head named after Queen Victoria. The pub closed in 1995 and reopened as The Jolly Sisters in 1999. This is a two room pub which has a cosy smaller bar at the front and a slightly larger bar at the rear. The decor here is faux Tudor which matches the exterior of the building. The walls are painted white and clad in black rough beams, there are also beams that run across the ceiling. The servery is brick built, has a small hatch and Arsenal memorabilia across the gantry. One of the standout features of this boozer is the leaded stained glass which bears the Whitbread deer’s head trademark. There is also a dartboard, a fruity, a jukebox and a large screen TV. The beer line up was straightforward and included mainstream brews, Guinness and no cask. I decided on a pint of Cruzcampo, my pint was top notch, price point was reasonable at just over a fiver. The pub doesn’t serve food. We arrived just after 12pm on a Saturday lunchtime on new year’s eve eve. The pub was quiet to start off, then about half a dozen or so punters arrived. This is an intimate locals pub so you’re not too far away from joining in the conversation. We had a bit of a natter with the Guv’nor who was friendly and welcoming. Celtic v Rangers was on the box which grabbed a bit of our attention throughout our pint here. Across London the oldschool local boozer is the type of pub most at risk. Gentrification, mortality and succession, demographic changes, shifts in culture, the cost of living crisis, property developers are all challenges that these pubs have to overcome to survive. The Jolly Sisters is a fantastic locals pub that is full of characters and character. We all left here with big smiles on our faces. This is a must visit London Pub. ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 30.12.23
