About This Pub

Ah, the Dog & Pheasant – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews and the website, it's all about that classic British pub experience: gathering round for good chats, enjoying a pint of ale, and tucking into some hearty, home-cooked meals. Most folks rave about the welcoming atmosphere and the friendly staff who go out of their way to make you feel comfortable, whether you're popping in for a quick lunch or a full evening out. The food sounds brilliant too – think fresh, tasty dishes that hit the spot, and it's even dog-friendly, which is a nice touch if you're out with your four-legged mate. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect; there have been a few grumbles about service being slow or orders getting forgotten, which could put a dampener on things if you're in a rush. Still, with an overall rating sitting comfortably at 4.4, it seems like the positives far outweigh the negatives for most visitors. If you're in the area, I'd say it's worth a visit for a relaxed afternoon or evening – just maybe keep an eye on the time for food service to avoid any disappointments. All in all, it's a solid spot for us pub enthusiasts looking for that authentic feel without too much fuss.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is just lovely – it's a proper traditional pub that's welcoming and perfect for catching up with mates or family.
  • They've got a cracking selection of drinks, including those tasty cask ales that really hit the spot.
  • The food is spot on; think hearty pub classics like fish and chips or rag puddings that are homemade and deliciously filling.
  • It's super dog-friendly, so you can bring your furry friend along without any fuss.
  • The staff are friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit hit or miss, with some folks waiting ages for drinks or not getting their food at all, which is a shame.
  • Food service might wrap up early in the evening, so it's worth checking times if you're planning a late bite.
  • Parking at the back is a tad tight, which could be a hassle if you're driving over.

The dishes are consistently delicious, with a focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients. The creativity and presentation of each dish are noteworthy, showcasing the pub's commitment to culinary excellence. The staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, going above and beyond to ensure a positive experience. They are happy to answer questions about the menu and make recommendations. The pub is well-maintained, clean, and has a cozy, welcoming vibe. It's the kind of place where you can relax and feel comfortable, whether you're enjoying a pint or a full meal. While the food is top-notch, the prices are very reasonable. You get a lot for your money, making it an excellent value for the quality of food and service. The 1 star forthefood is because we never actually got any. We arrived and were seated by a young waitress. She brought menus and then took our drinks order 2 drinks only. After 20 minutes waiting no drinks ks arrived. We looked around and saw two other tables were still sat with just drinks no food. We decided enough was enough and stood up to leave. This prompted another waitress to come over and ask whether we were ready to order. When oli told her we were leaving due to the poor service she apologised and explained the drinks order hadn't even been placed. Sorry but that is not good enough.

Cosy pub with parking at the back (bit tight). Wednesday evening. Two ales (pedigree and wainwrights). Had fish chips and mushy peas. Very good. Cooked to order. Real chips 😋. Ale good 🍻, not too cold. Food seem to stop about 830pm. Friendly landlords. Will definitely be back when in the area. Highly recommended
