About This Pub
Ah, the Crown & Shuttle – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a second home, you know? From the moment you step in, you're greeted by that cosy, traditional vibe with open log fires crackling away, making it perfect for a catch-up with mates on a damp evening. The staff are an absolute delight, always friendly and on point, which really adds to the community feel – it's easy to strike up a chat and feel right at ease. Their JW Lees cask ales are spot on, and if you're into live music or events, it's a brilliant little venue for catching up-and-coming bands or just enjoying the buzz. Weekends bring home-cooked food like a hearty Sunday roast, which is just the ticket if you're peckish, and being dog-friendly means you can bring the whole family along. On the flip side, the opening times can be a tad confusing, so it's best to check ahead, and it's got that classic old-school charm that might not appeal if you're after something more contemporary. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed night out, with plenty of positives that outweigh the minor niggles – I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area.
Pros and Cons
Pros

The atmosphere is absolutely cosy and traditional, with open log fires that make you feel right at home on a chilly evening.
-

-
They've got a cracking selection of JW Lees cask ales, perfect for anyone who appreciates a well-poured pint.
-
It's dog-friendly, so you can bring your furry mate along for a relaxed outing.
-
Live performances and events, like grassroots music nights, add a fun vibe and make it a great spot for a lively evening.
-
Home-cooked food on weekends, including a smashing Sunday roast, hits the spot if you're after something hearty and tasty.
-
The beer garden and outdoor seating are ideal for sunnier days, with parking making it easy to pop in.
Cons
-
The operating hours can seem a bit muddled from what I've seen, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any disappointment if you're planning a visit.
-
It's more of an old-fashioned pub, which might not suit those after a modern, trendy spot – it's all about that classic charm, for better or worse.
-
Food options are limited to weekends, so if you're hoping for a bite midweek, you might have to look elsewhere.

We had a buffet which was provided by a local cafe owner, absolutely lovely.
Bar staff were very friendly & welcoming.
Nice tidy, clean & warm pub with nice traditional decor.
We only had shandy & soft drinks but other people seemed to enjoy the ale.
I'd go back.
Old fashioned pub with seating outside at the rear. Cheap 🍺 beer on offer. Nice friendly feel about this pub. There are pub games: darts and pool. This pub has become the heart and soul of Firgrove and is a great meeting place There will always be someone who you can strike up a conversation with. Cheers
Absolutely a must.
