About This Pub
Ah, the Crown & Anchor – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Manchester, doesn't it? I mean, you've got this fantastic array of beers from Joseph Holt, all well-priced and spot on for a relaxing session, whether you're into cask ales or something a bit craftier. The staff really make the place; from what I've heard, they're dead chatty and go the extra mile, like sorting out chairs or creating that warm atmosphere that sticks with you. And let's not forget the food – they've got everything from classic dishes to pizzas and even vegan choices, with specials like curry nights or kids' deals that make it family-friendly. It's brilliant for catching live sports or joining in on a quiz, and being dog-friendly adds to the cosy feel. But, on the downside, some folks have shared that the menu's moved away from those hearty traditional meals to smaller plates, which could be a bit disappointing if you're hankering for a proper pub lunch. Plus, food stops serving early, so plan ahead, and keep an eye on the costs as they can mount up quicker than you'd think. All in all, it's a solid choice for a pint and a laugh with friends, as long as you go in with the right expectations – I'd say it's worth a visit for the good vibes and that excellent beer!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The beer selection is absolutely spot on – think exceptional Joseph Holt brews at great prices, perfect for a proper pint.
-
The staff are a real highlight; they're friendly and make you feel welcome, with stories of brilliant service that really lift the atmosphere.
-
There's a cracking variety of food on offer, from classic pub dishes and stone-baked pizzas to vegan options, plus fun events like live music and quiz nights to keep things lively.
Cons
-
The menu's shifted a bit from traditional pub grub to smaller plates, which might leave you wanting more if you're after a hearty meal, as one regular mentioned.
-
Food service wraps up fairly early, around 7pm most days, so you could miss out if you're planning a late bite.
-
Prices can sneak up on you, like splashing out £40 on wine and a wrap, which feels a tad steep for what's on offer.

Anton was the host and man he is special… came with my friends and he sorted us out with chairs and I’ve never had a better experience ever. He completely made the atmosphere and was delightful to talk to. I can’t stress enough how much I’d recommend coming to this place just to meet him.
My sister & I travelled down to see Kylie. We stopped in for something to eat but alas had just missed lady orders. The pub was welcoming and we felt extremely safe. Jo the landlady was just a breath of fresh air.

Been to this pub when in Manchester for past 20 years.Lovely traditional pub with nice staff and relaxed friendly atmosphere! However the menu has changed from traditional pub grub to a mishmash of small meals I was so disappointed yesterday 40 pounds for a bottle of wine a chicken wrap saucer of chips and the same for my sister! Children portions ! Need to have a rethink! Won’t eat there again but will go for a drink
Tasty food, lovely atmosphere and great ales!
Wonderful choice of award winning Holts bitter. Went on my birthday to sample food and drink. We were not disappointed. Fabulous food and service from the staff was wonderful. Will go again without doubt. Chilled for a pint on your own at whatever time of day as well as a cheeky lunchtime wine with your food. Great place. Enjoy!
