About This Pub

Ah, The Moon Under Water – it's one of those reliable Wetherspoon pubs that you can always count on for a no-fuss outing in Manchester. I have to say, what really stands out is how wallet-friendly it is; you can grab a decent pint or a full meal without breaking the bank, which makes it ideal for a casual meet-up with mates. The place is nicely situated on Deansgate, with plenty of space inside and out, including multiple floors that give it a bit of character from its old theatre days – I've found some great tucked-away corners for a peaceful read over breakfast. Service has its highs, like when the team is on top form clearing tables and being genuinely friendly, but it's not perfect; you might end up chasing someone for a clean-up or struggling to get info on accessibility if that's something you need. On the food side, it's standard Wetherspoon fare – tasty enough, but portions can be a tad skimpy, leaving you a bit peckish after a meal. Overall, with a solid 4.1 rating from loads of visitors, it's a winner for value and atmosphere, but keep those little drawbacks in mind if you're after something more polished. I'd still recommend popping in for a relaxed drink or bite; it's all about managing expectations and enjoying the good bits!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's a classic Wetherspoon spot with really affordable prices, making it a great choice for a budget-friendly pint or meal in the heart of Manchester.
  • The location on Deansgate is spot on – easy to get to and surrounded by the city's buzz, with both indoor and outdoor seating options to enjoy.
  • Spacious layout with multiple floors and some cosy hideaway spots, perfect for a quiet breakfast with a book or a relaxed catch-up over drinks.
  • Service can be quick and efficient, even when it's bustling, and some staff members go the extra mile to keep things tidy and welcoming.
Cons
  • Accessibility isn't always straightforward; it can be a hassle trying to get clear answers about things like table ordering if you've got mobility concerns.
  • Portions on some dishes, like fish and chips, might leave you wanting more – it's tasty, but not always filling enough.
  • You might need to flag down staff for basics like clearing tables, which can make the experience feel a bit hit or miss at times.

Had to call 15 times before someone gave me an answer. Called about accessibility. First person answered after 10 calls, I said i have a question about table ordering at their pub (I have limited mobility and would struggle to order from the bar) his immediate response was "that's a head office issue I'm hanging up". Called a further 5-10 times before speaking with a lady who gave me an answer. Don't waste your time here, they don't care about the patrons.

Quite a size weatherspoon with inside and outdoor seatings. Standard menu, great city centre location and service was quick despite how busy it was at the time. Been there twice for early breakfast and dinner and both times found same quick service.

Standard Wetherspoons, but in a great building with multiple floors. There's some great hide away spots too which made it perfect for a quiet breakfast, with a book. Staff were friendly, welcoming and first time I've been in a Wetherspoons where they were actively clearing plates, empty glasses etc. Food is standard and nothing out of the ordinary.

The food tasted good, but after a fish and chips with mushy peas, I was still hungry. The service I had to call the waiter to clean the table. All in all, the place is wonderful.

Lovely big old spoons with additional seating up stairs. Used to be an old theatre 🎭 had some bites and 3 pints. Service was exceptional. The blonde guy upstairs 'ember' was constantly working hard to clear tables and please customers. Some good staff
