About This Pub

Ah, Coopers Arms – it's one of those pubs that really captures the essence of a classic London spot, tucked away in Chelsea with its nostalgic Dickensian charm and a fresh, contemporary edge that makes it feel inviting from the moment you step inside. I've heard from a few mates that the beers are spot on, with a wide range of craft options and premium pours that pair brilliantly with their seasonal British menu – think mouth-watering steaks, proper fish and chips, and even some inventive twists on pub staples. The staff are an absolute delight, always cheerful and attentive, which adds to that warm, community feel, especially if you're planning a get-together in their airy private room upstairs. On the upside, when the food's hitting its stride, it's pure comfort, like a well-done Sunday roast that leaves you satisfied. But let's be honest, it's not all perfect; a couple of folks have mentioned the roasts falling flat sometimes, with complaints about dry meat or lacklustre gravy that might put a dampener on things. Still, with such a solid overall buzz from the crowd, it's worth swinging by for a pint and a bite – just maybe check it out on a good day or book ahead to avoid any surprises. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening out, as long as you're up for that mix of highs and the occasional miss.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is just lovely – it's got that perfect mix of traditional Victorian charm and a modern, stylish vibe that makes you feel right at home.
  • They've got a cracking selection of craft beers, premium drinks, and a classic British menu with favourites like fish and chips, steaks, and even a plant-based option to suit all tastes.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always on hand to make sure everything runs smoothly, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or hosting an event.
  • It's in a brilliant spot in Chelsea, near King's Road, and they've got a spacious private room upstairs that's ideal for celebrations or gatherings.
  • Many rave about the food when it's on form, like the delicious Sunday roasts and daily specials that really hit the spot for a proper pub meal.
Cons
  • Food quality can be a bit inconsistent, with some reports of disappointing Sunday roasts – like tough meat or thin gravy that doesn't quite live up to expectations.
  • It might get quite busy, so you could end up waiting or needing to book ahead, which isn't always ideal if you're after a spontaneous visit.
  • A few mentions of things feeling a tad underwhelming on occasion, perhaps not as polished as you'd hope for a place with such a sophisticated feel.

On the street this an attractive building and the image of a Cooper at work acknowledges a fading trade but one still important to the pub sector. It's a Youngs pub, so the usual mainstream meals and beers are on offer. The pub's light and comfy and the ubiquitous Youngs blue paint scheme feels more muted here. The bar's still a natural wood colour and the golden lighting creates a more relaxed vibe. There's also a partially covered outdoor area which has an instagram-worthy flower wall. Possibly the most comfortable chairs are the two leather wingbacks next to the toilets. A slightly unusual choice of position admittedly, but credit to the manager for using all the space they have. The standard picture of the Queen Mother pulling a pint is in this area too. An attempt at tilework, perhaps a nod to pub decor of yesteryear sits above the bar, as does a mounted deer head and some foliage. According to Camra, the original Coopers Arms, was demolished in 1874 and the current pub was built 40 feet south of its predecessor's position to allow for the extension of Redsdale Street into Queen Street, as Flood Street was then known.

Came here for my friends’ birthday drinks. Nice interior. We had pints and was good. The chips were well delicious. I saw a couple next table had steak and it looked delicious.

What has happened to the Sunday roast here? We have lived in the area for over thirty years and come here from time to time but the food yesterday was seriously not good. The attached photo of the roast beef will tell you all you need to know - that brown meat uuurgh. Plus the awful thin gravy. Cold roast potatoes. We had to ask where our food was as we waited nearly an hour for it, and I thought it had just been sitting under the light. Who knows. Fair enough the pub was busy but this was all extremely disappointing. We couldn’t face puddings or coffee so just left. Will need to go somewhere else from now on.

Probably the nicest and the most sophisticated pub in London. Very friendly staff, great food, not typical for a pub, more exquisite. Loved the place. Interior is tasteful and I could literally sit and look at all the details for good hour.

If you wanna find a good place for Sunday roast you cannot miss this place. Delicious food, great choose of beer and drinks, friendly staff and moose head on the wall. What you want more? Definitely order toffee pudding. You should book seats or wait outside drinking beer.
