About This Pub
Ah, Coach & Horses – it's one of those pubs that just warms your heart the second you step inside, with its roots going back to the 1830s and that lovely rustic charm everywhere you look. I have to say, the food really stands out; those home-cooked meals, like the Sunday roasts, are an absolute treat – fresh, hearty, and just what you fancy after a long week. The drinks are spot on too, with a great range of Joseph Holt beers at prices that feel fair, and it's fantastic for watching live sports or catching some live music in the beer garden on a sunny day. It's so accommodating for families and even your furry friends, which makes it a top choice for a relaxed outing. On the flip side, it does lean into that traditional pub style, so if you're in the mood for something a bit more contemporary, it might not quite hit the mark. And let's be honest, it can get a tad crowded when the events are on, or if you're popping in later in the evening, you might find things winding down earlier than you'd like. Overall, though, it's a gem of a place that I'd happily recommend for a good chinwag and a pint with friends – just go with an open mind and you'll likely leave with a smile.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The historic charm and cosy nooks make it feel like a proper traditional pub, perfect for a relaxing pint with mates.
-
Fantastic home-cooked food, especially those Sunday roasts – they're generous portions and always spot on, as if they've been made with real care.
-
The staff are absolute gems, always cheerful and ready to help, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
A cracking selection of well-kept real ales, lagers, and even some premium spirits, all at reasonable prices that won't break the bank.
-
It's brilliantly family-oriented with a play area for kids and a warm welcome for dogs, plus live music and sports in the beer garden add to the lively vibe.
Cons
-
It has that classic old-school feel, which might not suit everyone if you're after something more modern or trendy.
-
The pub can get quite busy during events or match days, so you might have to queue for a table or miss out on the best spots.
-
Opening hours are fairly standard, wrapping up early on some days, which could be a shame if you're hoping for a late-night session.

The best Sunday Roast I have ever had in a traditional English Pub. The food is all home cooked and home made, great portions and fresh to your table. The girls behind the bar are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble, I can not recommend highly enough, give it a go You won't be disappointed. All the regulars are friendly and welcoming and the pub is a proper English pub with an award winning beer garden and a great selection of beers and wine, My regular Sunday dinner pub from now on
We had our lovely Christmas dinner here and it was delicious! We were stuffed! We had a great time. The company was great, the staff was fantastic and couldn't do more for you. A little hidden gem. Try the food you will not be disappointed! Thank you for a lovely Christmas day!

04/05/23: [photo update] 2 pints of Trailblazer & 2 Tequila Rose.
31/05/22: I haven't been in the Coach for many years. When I say many, I mean since I was about 17. Now, that is some years ago. What a lovely surprise! Very welcoming and we only sat in the snug. It was like my front room! Archie chilled, got a few strokes and settled well. We had a couple of pints of Trailblazer and Gold! I think my old local, might become my new local! Looking forward to a few more nights in here, the amazing beer garden and of course a few more pints of Trailblazer!
Steeped in history and heritage.
Small 18th-century brick-built locals' pub which was renovated in the inter-war period and still retains its layout from this time with a lobby bar and three small rooms leading off it. The lobby has a bar counter which is old but has modern panels added to the front. Note the shelves for lobby/passageway stand-up drinking – at times the lobby is full of customers while some rooms are scarcely occupied at all. On the front right is the tap room/vault with a lino-tiled floor, and inter-war fixed seating.
You can’t beat old school multi roomed Holts pubs if you appreciate your heritage venues. Great service and the Holts Best Bitter is as good as it gets. If you’re passing - call in you won’t be disappointed.
Lovely cozy boozer with an awesome beer garden. Definitely worth a visit! Usual quality Joey Holts beer as well.
