About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about the Chester Road Tavern – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a warm hug when you walk in, with its classic old-school decor and that genuine community spirit. I love how they've kept things traditional, complete with separate rooms for darts and pool, which always gets a game going among friends. The ales are spot on, well-poured and full of flavour, and it's such a bonus that it's dog-friendly, making it easy to bring the pup along for a pint in the garden or inside. On the downside, the beer choices are mostly the familiar ones, so if you're in the mood for something really innovative or crafty beyond the basics, you might find it a tad predictable. Plus, it's not smack in the middle of town, so you might need to wander a bit to get there, but trust me, it's worth the effort for that cosy, unpretentious atmosphere. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed night out, especially if you fancy a proper local haunt with good tunes and friendly faces – I'd say give it a go and see what you think!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got that authentic traditional pub feel, like stepping back in time with its old-style charm and multi-room layout.
  • They serve well-kept cask ales and a few craft beers, making it a solid spot for a proper pint.
  • There's a darts room and a pool table, perfect for a bit of friendly competition while you chat.
  • The atmosphere is lovely and chilled, with a welcoming locals vibe and even some 1980s classics on the speakers.
  • It's really dog-friendly, so you can pop in with your four-legged mate without any fuss.
Cons
  • The beer selection leans towards generic options like Blacksheep or Tetley's, so it might not excite those after something more adventurous.
  • It's a short walk from the town centre, which could be a minor hassle if you're not up for the stroll.
  • Their online presence seems a bit lacking, with website issues that might make it harder to check out details beforehand.

Great local pub with heaps of original character, and 5 cask ales. Generic ales (Blacksheep, Tetley's, etc) but very well kept. Lovely chilled atmosphere. Worth the walk across town! Very dog friendly too.

Proper local on edge of town. Multi room incl Pool and Darts room. Had a lovely pint of Marston's Pedigree. Good locals vibe with 1980's classics on the speakers. Worth a few minutes walk down Chestergate to find.
